What to wear to prom or homecoming

Tweak it until you love it. For an event like prom, you want to LOVE your dress. Add a bold ribbon to define the waist. Add some tiny silk flowers around the bodice. Add a lacy trim to the hem. Until you feel like a total diva in it, you're dress just isn't prom-ready. Just be sure not your SURE before adding anything permenant... a plain prom dress is better than a ruined one.

In Iceland we don't have prom so I really just don't get the big deal

I think the dress is good like it is... I like more simple clothes :innocent:
I think the dress would be too much if you add something, maybe put on jewelry that maches? pearls tight to your neck? bracelet?

Standout jewelery sounds good and I think to make it really fresh, a wide ribbon around the bodice tied in a gorgeous bow would be lovely.

A wide ribbon with a bow sound good. It's a great idea

I agree that you should add a ribbon or bow. Beading or lace would probably look too "bridal" on that dress.

Maybe not a bow around the waist... maybe where you have the dress being cinched at the side to reveal the tulle underneath.. you could add some trailing satin ribbons there, but long ribbons, not short and fringe-like..(maybe in some fun contrasting colors, maybe just one soft color, depending on your tastes)
I dunno.. adding a bow around the waist seems too expected.

Why'd you chop your head out of that pic? :-P

I am also one of the people who thought it looks good just the way it is. However, if you are intent on change it somehow, Maybe some ribbon roses on the bottom of the red speckled with sequins to bring the focus there. However, if you are short, you might want to have the ribbon roses on the bodice of the dress. Then you can wear roses in your hair too.

thx for all the replies ;)
i think i'm going to add some flowers (sth like a corsage) at the part where the dress is cinched up... and have ribbons there..
and maybe some bead around the top or sth
hehe

PS.: i chopped my head off cuz im kinda paranoid about posting pics on the internet :P
and may hair was really messy and everything cuz i was about to go to bed

Real flowers would be very nice with a few ribbons... would look very vintage.. or at least .. I thinkit would.

PS. Tell your mom that she's a very good seamstress! My mom also wanted to make my prom dress, but I got lazy and just bought one.. she says she has dibs on my wedding dress... which I dont entirely mind. :)

is it finished, as in the fitting and alteration? the dress looks like it could be fitted and altered a lot more.

make sure your date gets u a huge corsage that is full of really really bright colors. those are the best. plus your dress is simple so it would really compliment it. my date had a simple black dress similar to that one and i got her a corsage that had several smaller purple/fuschia/pink/red and even two tone orchids. they all varied in size except for the large yellow one. it had tropical greenery and was just so elegant and unusual. she had to wear 3 wristbands to keep it on seriously every other girl were like 'you've got the best one!'

man i saw some really ugly ones there. they had ones with baby's breath and blue roses. ugh, roses are so played out. oh, yeah cheap florists ribbon is ugly too.

but look at me i'm off the topic.

anyway. i like your dress alot. fitted a little better and a very simple diamond stud necklace and maybe a tennis bracelet i think would coplete the look.

hehe, when i took the picture, it wasnt completely finished yet..
the zipper wasnt sewn on yet.. but now its finished.. it just needs some decorations, probably the corsage ideawith the ribbons ;)

I would leave your dress as is. Its so classicly elegant and simple. I would just pair it with a great set of pearls or a simple necklace. Maybe put your hair in a bun and put a flower (real or fake) in the bun.

I agree with Holly. There's an art in knowing when to stop :)
