What to wear to prom or homecoming

By the way, prom night is a really magic evening! I had so much fun when I had it... And don't stress too much about the dress. It took me one month to choose it and it was made in less that one week. Just have fun and enjoy the night, the dress is secondary! ;) Just my two cents!

This is the best I've found so far. I do realize that the hair wouldn't work, although the makeup's fairly nice. I'd better keep looking.

Pretty :flower: . I appreciate your help.

I was wondering, though--if I did decide to try for something like the looks you posted (now or some other time with the dress), how might I achieve that sort of look? I mean, my dress is long and kind of fitted (not tight, but not flowy) and the style is generally not Victorian like the blue-period pictures, so te look is kind of different from the start. What could I do to give a similar sort of feeling? Or, what could I do just to get a generally unconventional look?

I do love those Gothic Lolita dresses.

My night started with my mom giving me only about 30 minutes to get ready. Between makeup on the face, chest, and back (to cover up backne), hair, and shimmying into my dress I was late. Then on the way my parents car broke! So I needed to get to the house where we were all meeting, so my mom stopped the car coming up behind us. Luckily it was my date's mom! So she gave me a ride to the house. I did cry though, as you can see in this lovely picture.

So then we took pictures...

The dress of the girl second from the left is from Cache. It was was draping and reminded me of a famous Jackie Kennedy dress.

The top of my dress was a dress I got onsale for $25 at Wet Seal. The bottom was gathered black fabric we attached to a slip. We then put white tulle in the front. My shoes were Steve Madden houndstooth pumps.

The girl in the blue dress was on prom court.

The girl in the green and pink to the right of the girl in the blue dress made that entire dress by herself. It was gorgeous. The green had pink butterflies embroidered on it. The pink on the sides was tulle.

So apparently somebody pulled the fire alarm right as inner started. Luckily James Bond was there to take care of the culprit. I'm in the dress and my boyfriend is hanging off the truck.

I'm not sure if anybody did, but the DJ suggested getting your official prom pictures taken with the firefighters

In the end, good night had by all.

you look darling ;) my prom is next week and I can't wait.!

ps: your date is cuuuuute :woot:

:woot: You look adorable! I love your dress (and, er, your date ;) ).

Sounds like quite a memorable experience. I'm glad you had fun!

Hahah great prom story!...

Not as eventful as mine except I got thrown into the ocean..thankfully, not with my prom outfit since I changed before we walked onto the beach. If not then I'd have a story- What happens to a date when they throw me into the ocean with my favorite shoes and a one of a kind vintage.

Death by a sewing machine? Or make him sit through a fashion show online over and over and educate him on fashion until he appreciates fashion? Or I'd just tell him he had to pay for the dress and shoes to make up for it....and I'd double the price of course

My date went online to make plans for skating the next day and then proceeded to fall asleep on the floor.

Thanks for all the nice comments :flower: I think he's pretty cute too :P

As you like it - just for the record, the dress was much better than that! The bottom was crooked from all the hubub prior to taking the pictures. I'm glad you like it though! It's a wicked good compliment coming from such a seamstress as yourself.

Did I mention that I actually have a spray-on tan in that picture, along with significant (but not visible when wearing that dress) tanlines?

Help! I just got asked to homecoming and it's in 2 weeks- No Dress! I need help.... the guy I'm going with is just a friend, but he's uber uber rich (own limo and driver and he's 16) and well I don't want his mom to hate me. I sort of like one guy who's "riding" with us... so of course I want to look hot :innocent: so.... what can y'all come up with? Short is okay- but keep it under $400!! I    y'all!

Hey... okay, so I've got until like February 18th to find my 1st debutante gown  it has to be a formal, poufy, floorlength number and can be ANY color except white (because my sister's is white with pink stones (cannot think of type) sewn all over the bodice and top layer of tulle... can y'all think of any- maybe under $600 since I'm not going to wear it again and I've got another one needed within a year? I'm soo lost... help!

Can you make a tour of the bridal/prom shops in your area? Since it is well before "prom season" you might be able to snap up some bargains; if the prices are right, you might be able to get your dress for this year and for next.

Or if you went to proms in highschool, you could recycle your old prom dress, if it still fits and you like it all right.

Otherwise, I would suggest having a confab with a local seamstress and seeing if there is time to have a dress custom made. I know I could make something like what you are after for under $600, possibly under $300, considering the biggest, froofiest wedding dress I did was just under $500 including materials. I think my charges are in line with those of most dressmakers, but it would be worth your while to make independent inquiries.

I saved a lot of pictures of dress-styles as an inspiration of my matron of honor
..and this one I thought was particularly beautiful

It's from Watters..I have no idea of the price or the quality..
but I thought the colours would be pretty for a winter event.
