What to wear to prom or homecoming

I might go to prom this year...

but first things first....Homecoming dance is sooner and I havent gone to any of the dances and I'm junior/3rd year already....sooo I better go...they don't seem that great, but its better to have some sort of memory than none at all. :innocent:

for my junior year, i got a burgandy and white dress..i liked it so much, esp cause i got it $50 cheaper than the original price!

I wore an electric blue dress with crossover shoestring straps and a huge pleated skirt (Marilyn style). I wore silver heels with ties that wrapped around my ankles and a silver clutch....very 70s. I remember my friends and I spent the day sunbathing because we wanted tans for the night. We were crazy...we ended up like cooked lobsters.

travolta, a bathing suit... ha, I love it! I wore my grandmother's dress, actually. It was kind of a last-minute thing, I found it in my aunt's closet and it fit me perfectly, so weird...

I wore a pink ball gown, with a crystal tiara, white long gloves and pearl necklace and earings ^_^ can anyone spot the princess?

a lavender laundry by shelli segal dress with silver beading at the top & cute silver shoes. i had my hair in a curly updo. i had some pictures! i wish i could find the ones that were scanned!

Thanks, erin :). SigniorinaFab, I <3 what Gwyneth is wearing in that pic. That dusty rose colour is so nice.

My proms were 2000 and 2001. My mom's a dressmaker (professional wedding dress designer, mostly) so I asked her to make my dresses.

First prom I asked her to copy this Liz Hurley Versace dress:

getty images. it was a deep jewel green but without all the patterns in the middle.

for my second prom, i asked her to copy this China Chow Dior dress:

gettyimages.com. She didn't do those weird cuts at the bottom, and it was gold instead. :) Sarah Jessica Parker wore this on SATC too (season 3).

I need to revive this thread- homecoming is coming up and I am in serious need of a cute dress! I also need it to affordable, as the pay of a babysitter is anything but stellar;) .

I have a few I really like, opinions PLEASE!

To give you a general idea of what I look like, I'm always get compared to Noemie Lenoire by my mother in the looks dept., but I'm built EXACTLY like Kate Moss.

Thanx!:flower:

This year I'm wearing something vintage. So many girls had the same dress last year... pshh...^_^

I didn't really like the cut of the skirt on the firs one, I think it lookes sortof childish. I liked the second one though, go for that one! :)

I prefer the second of those two :flower: Is the scarf hem something that you really want for the dress or are you open to other options?

Really anything awesome, I'm game for. I just noticed, in fact, that they are both scarf hem- it is really hard to find glam/stylish dresses on a modest budget, but I'm an up and coming fashionista, so I'm trying my hardest:flower: !

Here are the sites for the biggest local stores for homecoming attire (but, if you can find me some cheap online stuff, that works too)

www.debshops.com
www4.jcpenny.com (go under women, then dresses, then occasion, then homecomingB) )

and, if you guys are feeling 'creative'

I wasn't going to go to my prom until I saw my prom dress (in an antique store no less.) It was a red 1950's prom dress that was in perfect condition. I was so happy with my decision to go vintage because most of the girls word "prom-my" dresses that just looked cheap. I loved it, still do considering it's still in my closet....

I wore all black.
A corset that I got from fredericksofhollywood.com
Long black skirt with a train on the back...I had it custom made
Lace above elbow length gloves.
A dainty tiara...it was gorgeous
Satin black heels. didn;t do the strappy thing with that dress.

I just kept it all black with simple sparkly jewelry.

heres some pics

I love how the curls look

Ok, i think I put up enough pics. The prom was ok, I just loved my dress mainly because it didn't look like everybody elses...The POOFBALL Princess dresses.

Love

i still remember the outfits I wore to the 2 dances my high school had senior year, they were basically the same except with an interchange of tops:

Semi-formal:

Black blazer - Romeo Gigli
Thin black turtleneck sweater - Yohji Yamamoto (no longer fits me)
Black trousers - Emporio Armani
Black suede boots (i still have and wear these) - Tod's

Formal:

Black blazer - Romeo Gigli
Black button down shirt - Y's for Men (still have and wear this)
Black silk tie w/ small white dot pattern - Prada (Dad's)
Black trousers - Emporio Armani
Black leather slip on shoes - Hugo Boss

I went to prom as a Freshman in May of 1992. Heaven help us all and preseve us from bug-eyed glasses and crimped hair and Minnie Mouse flats!

Edited to add: for the bold and strong of stomach, these tiny pictures can be clicked for a larger and more detailed image.

The dress cost $85 (then, the most expensive thing I ever had owned) at the J. C. Penny in Scottsbluff, NE, and I already had the shoes. The hair took literally 5 hours to do. My mom insisted that it was a beautiful hairstyle and had me sit for it again three years later, for my highschool graduation photos!

Edited to add: I really, really, really hated this dress, but I wanted to go to prom, and size 0 didn't exist when I was a scrawny 14-year-old. I was *tiny* with like a 31" bust at the time, and this was literally the only dress I could find. It looks like (and probably was) a bad quinceneras dress. I feel bad for any girl who had to wear one like this for her quince! I had tried on a really beautiful red dress but it was strapless with these weird armbands attatched to the side of the bodice, and whenever I moved my arms, it turned the dress around my body!
