What to wear to prom or homecoming

I have to say that I am so glad the British don't go in for stuff like Proms. There would probably be some parties but nothing on this kind of scale. Knowing myself as I was when I was in 1996, I would have hated it, but essentially because it would have meant getting out of my Nirvana t-shirt and washing the red veggie dye out of my hair (done in the girls toilets at school in the lunch break - I thought I was so avant-garde  )
Anyway, was there anyone who just didn't like this sort of thing? ...did anyone rebel? I know I would have, I hated conformity. Or is it seen as a rights of passage sort of thing, just something that everyone does? ...Is there anyone that wishes it wasn't such a big part of American culture?

yea, I dont think I'd care either way. This was te first school dance I ever went to, and the only reason I went ws because it was PROM. The prom itself really wasn;t all that great. They played too much rap, and I dont care for rap. I just liked dressing up, that was the highlight of it all.

I was scared of girls in high school and never went to my prom. Big mistake. It looks like fun......

My formal (australian equivalent of a prom i think) was a few months ago. This is what I wore...I had my dress made for me, I was aiming for a sort of ballet style although some of my friends told me it reminded them of the one Carrie wore on Sex & The City (which I have never watched). Anyway...pics... ;)

Oh my gosh, I feel like crying. I've found my prom dress. But its almost $300 and its not in my size. I'm just devasted.

I have this dream... tacky as it is, I want to wear Chucks with my prom dress. I want something either by Annah Stretton (NZ designer) or inspired by her (which I will DIY), something made from different coloured silks and chiffons with bits of pearl and fake flowers and dots and beautiful clashing. And then, I want to un-girlify it with my beloved navy Chuck Taylors. Everyone will stare and my mother will sh*t herself, but I really want to. I've got a few years to work on my dress, thank God.

I remember this dress but I totally forgot the designer/website for it.. bridesmaids dresses... I'm going to be a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding and I definitely want to be able to have some say in what the hell i'm going to buy/wear

I remember when I first found the website (which i can't remember, i need your help) that there were many dresses on the site that were so pretty ..

so, help?

Im a dude but I dont know what i want to wear to prom/grad, here in Canada we call it grad. I dont want to rent something typical, I want to buy it so i can wear some of the clothes in the future too....suggestions? I want something cooler, less run of the mill i suppose.

And I dont even really want to go to grad, everyones making a big deal about it, dates, limos, afterparties

For some people it seems this is supposed to be the highlight of their lives, if this is the high point of your life, i feel for sorry for you....

Waukon thats a beautiful dress :)

This year is my prom and I am so EXCITED! I don't want a normal prom dress though ... I was thinking the dress that Paris Hilton wore to some or other awards show that had feathers on the bottom?

damn those pre credit days eh ? It might have been http://www.dessy.com/ - the last dress in my post bear that watermark :flower:

This year is my prom also and I'm freaking out. I know what I want it's just tough to find the styles I want. It has to be strapless, full-length, a slight ballgown but also backless if possible. In yellow, orange, or fuschia.

And at our school you HAVE to go all-out for prom. The unwritten rules are: hair in updos, nails in either a French manicure or a silver, toes in a French pedi, dress full-length. Homecoming can be shorter because it's a semiformal, unlike prom which is as formal as they get.
