Gucci Group offered to restart her label, which probably looked attractive to Stella not just financially, but also because she would be able to control all aspects of the design and production, including choice of materials; in other words, she wouldn't have to work with leather.CharlottefromCA said:Why did Stella leave? but I think Stella McCartney was integral, as it really raised the profile of Chloe and brought it to the mainstream again. But design wise, Phoebe is much better.

But...when Stella and Phoebe were both designing Chloe, the line had such a great new energy. There weren't many clothes being made at the time for the young, cool, confident, going-out-on-the-town girl, and they kind of captured that brilliant attitude. The two of them together obviously had a great synergy because once they went their separate ways, their respective collections became so different from what they were designing previously, somehow less exciting. Although they have both put out great collections since then, I don't think they ever recaptured the exhilarating quality of the line when they were working together. I think I'm butchering this saying, but it's something like: the sum of the parts is greater than the parts themselves...
