Why do you like/hate Prada?

i used to love prada but alas it is an other one of those great makes over taken by the CHAV, it follows in the path of henri llyod, lacoste, burberry etc. :(

I prefer Miu Miu - but I do like Prada in terms of the items in their collections (except for spring05), sort of understated elegance at times.

On another I completely agree that their sales people are horrid, lol though I think it may have been because I just browse and didn't buy anything

one musn't get into the habit for blame the chav for all fashion's ills. the great marketers at prada ruined the brand. the chavs had a penchant for prada sport but they can't be blamed for the mediocre mainline of late.

The only thing that I really like about Prada is how she doesnt use overt sexuality to sell her clothes, not in the designs, the ad campaigns or the runway shows.

I like most of her shoes from her menswear collections...And I DID like her collections from a few years back. The newer collections, I can care less about..

Correct me if Im wrong, but are there NO black models (or any other model of color for that fact) in her shows? I think Sandy Oumar would fit in nicely w/ the Prada "look." :ninja:

I love Pradas men's collection. I like the colours and the whole look. I'm trying to figure out (handicapped by my unexperienced eye for fashion) what are the 'keys' to the look... I guess the colour combinations do a lot.

^I think I like Prada because it is not pretty or feminine, neither it is obviously sexy or glamourous. This in itself is very unusual for a mainstream brand in my opinion. I enjoy how Miuccia explores different ideas, 'trends', in her collection though I appreciate that this may seem like a ploy to get her customers to buy a new skirt/shirt/dress every season. It may well be but don't most luxury brands do this? She challenges herself, using crochet just recently when she detests it and I think her collection go a little way in the fashion world to challenge the perception of women. I can imagine many different women wearing her clothes, young and old, from all walks of life where as I cannot imagine many women wearing most other designer clothes.
my thought exactly.
i like prada because it's pretty simple but not in a boring, typical way, i dont expect her to be avant-garde or whatever, and i certainly dont like the logo stuff but i find most of her collections to be very appealing and a nice option for those who dont want a sexed up and tacky luxury item.

I hate Prada first and foremost for the bland, boring, subpar quality overpriced clothes. Although I have to admit that recent womens collections were somewhat better - the mens continue to be blah.

I also hate Prada for being the frontrunner in creating and feeding the consumer culture frenzy - along with the Gucci Group and LVMH. You kids probably don't remember, but before LV bags, Balenciaga bags, whatever-flavor-of-the-month bags and other neurotic consumer musthaves, the first "it" things were those ugly nylon Prada bags and Prada shoes in the late 90's.

the only problem i have with prada is that theres never any black models in there shows or ads.

you must have problems with a lot of brands then?

***NEWS FLASH****

i was looking through my archives today, and there has been a black model on the prada catwalk!!!!! :o :o

naomi campbell did the spring 1992 show...

She is really a stylist, not a designer , she is not creating new thinsg but she is bringing thing together. This is why 'everybody' can find something they like from prada and why it has such stroung inffluence on fashion. Personally I like soem of there clothes and shoes but it's not really for me. I like Miu Miu better.

i like prada because of their adds. they are so seductive even though the people look plastic(in an old wax model kind of way) and clothes are not what the current fashion :LOVER: thinks is glamourous, dont get me wrong PRADA is the the most glamourous of them all in my mind

plumage surely a healthy discussion is always worth having so we can listen to each others pros & cons.
Does anyone remember the outfit worn by the Audrey Hepburn in the New York bookshop before she is disovered by Fred astaire? It was a sort of brown pinafore dress - that always reminds me of Prada. I will try to find a picture.....

i agree that it is far more interesting to hear all perspectives...

about that outfit...helena ...that is one of my absolute fave looks and i have been known to sport a very similar look in my time...but it never reminded me of prada...maybe because i know it's givenchy...and for me...the next best thing to givenchy it YSL...so i think of ysl...funny...

i have not liked prada for the most part...although i find their advertising is usually exceptional...however ...for the past maybe 3-4 seasons...i have to say that i've been pleasantly surprised by the collections... :flower:

yes I never thought about it ....it must be Givenchy. Lovely! It makes me think of very early Prada collections - I remember I had a copy of L'Officiel with all the show photos including the first Prada collection (which was the first time I heard of Prada) and it was like that dress. dowdy/prim schoolteacher chic. That look has always been appealing to me for some reason.
