Why do you like/hate Prada?

prada is the kind of thing that people look at and they automatically like or dislike you. At my high school a few years ago it was such a status symbol, and im not a general fan of things that people use just to elevate themselves above everyone else. I do like some of the clothes, but I dont own any.

I don't love or hate prada (except the nylon purses always made me gag). Prada is extremely NOT me and nothing ever sticks out in my head as something I'd love to have (though I do admit to liking some of the ads). However, on other people, heck yes I think it works. Just not me, no way, no how would I ever be Prada's #1 fan, or even close.

What I don't get is how it has been embraced by like, rappers and silly bottle-blonde teenagers who have never seen an actual Prada show in their life but name drop and say they "<3 AbErCrOmBiE & FItCh, ChAnEl, HoLlIsTeR, pRaDa<3"??? Where does this come from???? Prada isn't clothing that caters to this crowd at all, I can hardly see an over-tanned, sl*tty California 16 year old or a minimal-clothing wearing, sparkly jewelry-loving, super tall, super-thin stiletto wearing female rapper wanting any of Miuccia's odd, dull-colored, completely un-sexual designs? The last thing the aformentioned aspire to look like is this:

in regards to the california twiggy tan teenagers, i would think it would more refer to the handbags and maybe shoes, not so much the clothing itself...but maybe im wrong...

speaking for tall guys, Prada has very short shirts and jackets...a problem that seems constant with female designers (Versace and Hermes have similar cuts), but the shoes are great—I must have 10 pairs of the driving loafers alone.

I think Prada has simply become a household name you can throw around as "designer" and "luxury". And the shoes/bags are much more "approachable" than the actual clothes, you see a lot of people accessorizing with Prada... Just like you see a lot of people carrying LV bags, but not nearly as many wearing their clothes.

I do wear Prada, and their sizing seems to work well for me, and I'm pretty short... So I can see how the sizes could be difficult for taller guys.

THAT is the image Prada has. That's why I dislike Prada. If you ask me, Miu Miu is a million times better because sometimes it seems like it's more exlusive, less hyped, and a whole lot better than the mainline overall.

I feel sorry for Prada, it's now in the ranks of "buRbErrY, gUcCi, , LoUis VuiTtOn and a & F gUyS" (although if you ask me..I don't think Prada is guilt free....they created this image for themselves by expanding somuch)

All I have to say about all this AbErCrOmBiE and 'PrAdA' (who types like that!?) stuff is that I'm really glad Im out of high school and out into a world not dominated by 12 year old sluts. Prada's name seems officially soiled and I can be embarrased to say that I like some of the styles because it suddenly equates me with people who's IQ scores barely grace 70. Is there any hope?

You know, I have seen quite a few girls like this browsing around on facebook...and these are COLLEGE aged girls, so around 18-22, entering adulthood. They claim they're into fashion, and it's not even so much that they enjoy brands such as Prada, Gucci, LV, whatever...but I seriously wonder if I can even have a serious conversation with them about the actual clothes.

In my school, two 15 yr old girls were talking about how "like, oh my god, you are going to go to the school reunion the most successful with like, a prada handbag". That's exactly how they said it. I'm thinking... "hello? Do you even know who Miuccia is? Have you ever even seen anything other than a nylon Prada bag from Saks or ebay? Did you even know that they had fashion shows?"

Prada has become ridiculously mainstream and the nylon bags just annoy me to death, Prada has so many diffusion pieces that have no relevance to Miuccia's "ideals" and that's what gives Prada this horrid image,and they deserve it, too. That's why I don't like Prada mainline and the entire group. (Although I must say I don't mind Miu Miu at all )
