Why do you like/hate Prada?

I love Prada because the clothing fits me great. Plain and simple. I know I can always rely on Prada for simple, classic lines that will flatter my body, as well as a few fun and creative pieces, each season. I always feel pulled together and chic in Prada and much of the Prada clothing can usually easily convert from dressy to casual.

Another big plus - I ALWAYS know what size I am in Prada. Unlike many other designers who vary their cuts wildly and suddenly either vanity size or cut smaller, Prada is consistent in size. I know when I order a Prada garment online in my size that it will fit me well.

So. Consistently flattering - really, what more do you want out of a label? I don't let the fact that their nylon bags are overused and copied distract me from all the other pluses of their clothing. :D

On a more positive note, Prada menswear has some nice knitwear this season...it's just the pricing i don't necessarily approve of/agree with.

i admit that i am a bit confused when people talk about the 'intellectualism' of prada...can someone please explain to me how her designs are intellectual and why people call muiccia an intellectual designer?

I'm not sure what the people you are referring to are talking about in terms of intellectual design, but I personally see Prada as kind of intellectual in the sense that with some of her designs and pieces you don't very obviously or automatically see what she's alluding to (like what era in history or whatever)...you have to look at it for a few seconds or longer to get the full effect. With some other designers, the effect or era they are trying to recreate is more in your face and immediate when you see a piece they have created.

While I agree with Sunkist to some extent, I can't help but think that 98% of this era or style that is hinted at comes from advertisement and popularity alone. Without those two things, this entire thread would be obselete. Prada has been creating the same trends (other than the Nylon purses, that have been mentioned about 100 times so far [don't get me wrong, for good reason]) over and over for years, maintaining their sophisticated appeal along the way. Don't kid yourself; even before I knew anything about fashion, the name "Prada" was one of the best examples of mainstream high fashion I could think of--even without seeing any of the clothes.

I respect the designers' ability to keep Prada in such high demand, but I feel like I'm looking at the same thing as last year with minor alterations. Good design, to me anyway, is recreating an era--using different details and attributes from a style and turning it into something new every season, not ever decade.

But in the end, it doesn't really matter what we think. Everything's obviously working out quite well for the folks at Prada.

i like nylon prada bags. They are mostly durable, practical and a great design (yess! simple doesn't always mean bad!), you never get sick of it pricesly because of thier simplicity and no animals die in the process.

prada for me is a brand to easliy dislike, however because she is clever in many ways, i respect her for that

Of all the horrible companies in the fashion industry why go after a house that actually has integrity in trying new fabrics, shapes, colors and importantly, details. The business practises of Patrizio Bertelli have NOTHING to do with his wife who has only ever worked with the most creative (as one would expect) of the industry. The people that work there are extremely hard working artisans who have pride in their craft (as most Florentines will agree). The work (if one is to see the galleria boutique in Milan) is refined and innovative in a way most of 7th Avenue will never be, and puts most Italian houses to shame.

someone here said that it's brand 'we love to hate".

oh, yes! i enjoy the sensation of seeing something really ugly go down my favourite runway. it's humour, and it pushes taste into a different, more interesting territory. it's that signature prada "intellectualism".

now, many people on this thread have said that the "intellecualism of clothes is overrated, but why would a woman with a PhD waste her PhD? Kudos to Mrs. Prada for not resorting to blatant showing off of boobs and ***. the suggestionis much sexier.

ultimately, ask yourself this: are there many other brands of this caliber that got people talking without sex?

Im becoming torn about Prada. I have always loved the line and am always drawn to the line.

I have several pairs of shoes from Prada, as well as other small goods. When I view runway shows online...Im always drawn to the Prada clothing. Its always so well tailored. The cuts are beautiful and the styling is amazing.

BUT lately, I am losing my taste for the brand, seeing how commercial it is becoming, and how easily the items are knocked-off.

But when I look at other designers to favor, they just dont do it for me like Prada does.

I love prada for the feel it gives you. I bought my first Prada bag just recently (gotta buy yourself a nice chrismas present), and it just makes me feel like a lady!

I hate Prada for the fact that she's charging $525 for a cotton button up shirt I want....

Spotting a fake prada..............

My father in law just bought my wife and I a bunch of purses/hand bags to sell on eBay, swears they are all real. A lot of them are Prada's that he paid up to 200.00 each, is there anyway to tell if they are 100% real, authentic? What gives them away as fakes, or what makes them so real? People say to feel and touch them, i have and honestly i dont know what makes it "real". [email protected] is my email if youd like to email me, but any responses would be greatly appreciated!

The biggest hatred I have is they rob Helmut Lang from its creative-artistic-inspiration value!! For that I can't forgive untill it is return to the public!! It is our property!! God I sound like an a**!! But who cares!!

Haven't read this whole thread, but yea, i think Prada (for men) is played out. That red stripe has been overkilled by the fakes, and like others said, i find most designs boring. Oh and yes, I confirm the Prada staff is the snobbiest i've ever seen, most of the time they're clicking together totally ignoring you, it took me once TEN minutes to get the attention of a salesman, i admit that day i wasnt looking my sharpest with my vespa helmet under arm (and go figure it's now theyre hottest item).

anyways the only Prada thing i own is the black "fly" sunglasses, and even those i got quickly tired of lol..

Quality

I bought a pair of 4 inch stunning and classic boots from Prada. They are so gorgeous and comfortable! I haven't come across too many designers who make such elegant and eternally attractive footwear. A++

I don't personally like the flashy Prada. I hate names and emblems everywhere. I understand they're making dough, though. Cheers to that... but that isn't the Prada that I admire as a major fashion house. Though I do have one of the nylon Prada makeup bags, which is cool and does its job.

Oh, and if you want gloves! Prada has the ill long butter soft leather gloves. Last forever.

Simple clothes for the complex mind.
Perhaps that can appear basic if you don't know what to look for.
Being highjacked by senseless little girls is an unfortunate casualty of success, but as with everything, it's only a phase.

For some reason, I find Prada outfits and runway presentations quite forced and pretentious, even though the clothes don´t seem overtly theatrical, nothing seems to come off naturally when being presented. There is a very consistant thread that follows the styling, the way they hold their handbags, the way they ocassionally ad really ugly footwear (fushia patent leather peep toe granny boots and platforms with strange bamboo wedge heel being the epitome), most of this heavily relies on stylist tricks and it is widely known that they have hired people such as Katie Grand to style their runways, I remember that she was the one that added the antique brooches here and there that became sort of a staple for the house, appearing on shoes, jackets and whereever else you could put some extra-decoration on top.
