Why is French Vogue so exciting? Merci, Fabien Baron & Carine Roitfeld!!!

iconemod, finaly some one who know what they are talking about. French vogue has it all Carine is the ultimate editor in chief, She does it all and has the style to back it up, not to mention styling ysl and gucci back to back for 2 years, and know that she is not doing it her stylist marie A, is doing it. You dont see edward E styling any major sh*t, and he is the one working with steven. Also faben is god, look at the story with erin wasson , the page layout is insane, every other mag copies french vogue creative. Whos better, Formicetti, lucinda, they are good but they are not carrine. I bet a millon dollars ms rottfield will be driving A VOGUE before we know it. Come on she is a ANNA WINTOR CLONE, BUT with better style and a good personality. Frech vogue also has the best team of stylists, ana B, Emanule alt , marie amile . CASE CLOSED

THe edit

Indeed... but tell us your opinion rather than killing the thread with off-topic-sterile contributions... (Without any personal allusions, of course:wink: )

My opinion is that this is a spicy thread

Ok, I will stop teasing.
I agree with you iconemode, I think the very free nature of Vogue paris is the right environment in which to harbour exciting, artistic and most of all fashionable editorials and content.
I do however believe that it is important to not over-emphasise sex or get caught up in eroticism alone. I believe she has the insight to balance this when necessary, but right now the world (especially the US), needs an injection of the liberal and uncensored. We need to remember how to LIVE :D

the school language department is subscribed so i rob there copys

Well I'm French , I wasn't really interested in 'Paris-Vogue' before, I used to find it too 'old-fashioned' . I knew Carine Roitfeld's reputation and image as a fashion icon and reference but that wasn't the thing that led me to buy their issues frequently , that was more Emmanuelle Alt who was the fashion editor of '20 ans' (probably my favourite fashion editor) who made me so interested in fashion as a teenager (Marie-Amélie Sauvé was a fashion editor in '20 ans' too) , and even though I do miss her 'contribution'' in '20 ans' I think she's an important element in Carine Roitfeld's team that made that the fashion magazine more 'fresh' , 'youthful' while still respecting the 'classy' touch that 'Paris-Vogue' requires. Actually even beyond my curiosity to actually see what she would do as a fashion editor in the 'Paris-Vogue' I began to love their issues in their entirety.I like their interesting articles about writers , artists , their fashion editorials , it isn't as gossipy and 'glossy' as the other Vogue editions (but I'm excluding the Italian 'Vogue there) , I like its sobriety and yet that kind of interest they have in new faces and new trends , their fashion editorials are original mixing vintage finds with classical refernces , being quite classy with a sexy 'touch' .Besides , the fashion editors seem to actually know something about fashion and references , they would feature Anene Demeulemeester , Helmut Lang's clothes and not stick like most Vogue editions with Sarah Jessica Parker or some bland actress wearing Marc Jacobs . I like the fact that their fashion editors seem a bit 'nostalgic' of the 80's/90's not in their style but in the fashion icons they refer to . The only thing that annoys me a bit is that obsession they have over Emmanuelle Seigner that I can't stand.

Wow, this thread was juicy.  Found it by accident. :P

It certainly was...

And for the record I do like French Vogue...sometimes...I don't buy it every month. But I like Carine...the Carine character in The Devil Wears Prada was interesting...

^ I don't think she was referring to Miranda Priestly but perhaps I'm wrong

I think French Vogue under Carine has generally been pretty dismal. They've excelled at creating an exciting and dynamic front-of-the-book but the editorials are often sorely lacking. They are pretentious, contrived, and boring. Carine is a stylist, not an editor-in-chief. I'm sure she'd be great as a fashion director but you can't be at the helm of a magazine without journalistic interest and experience. Baron's art direction is certainly more graceful than that of his predecessors, M/M Paris. But it's not enough to save the magazine.

French Vogue fails to serve the needs of the average French woman in the way, say, American Vogue does for American women. It's just an arty catalog really. With a lot of sad, dumpy stories styled and photographed in a myriad of 'weird' ways. That may work for Another Magazine or self-service, but French Vogue's mission should be to serve a target reader, not to alienate her. I don't think that French women are interested in French Vogue anymore. They don't relate to it because it is so far removed from their world. This is reflected in the magazine's embarrassingly low circulation, probably the lowest of the leading international editions of the magazine. But, of course, it's more satisfying for Carine to continually publish an avant-garde zine for her little clique of friends than to create a publication out of a genuine desire for journalistic service. If Conde Nast wasn't funding her outrageous vanity project the plug would've been pulled years ago.

The magazine under Joan Juliet Buck (Carine's predecessor) was graceful, stylish, and elegant. It was never hip or edgy but it never needed to be. I miss those days a lot.

everybody knows i like vogue paris...
but i must say this is an intelligent post... though i don't think it's boring, to me...
i think i love metal...
not seeing your post that much but must say there are always good...

My favourite issue is, definetely, the SOFIA COPPOLA issue: CLASSY, SMART, MODERN. Since that issue I realized that if someday there must be a great shoe campaign, Sofias feet are destined to stardom!!!

I tried to search the forum but with no results... are there any scans in the forum of the COPPOLA issue dec/jan 2004/2005?
