not too retro, cheesy or overly wide-leg--whatever that means. ...and one can definitely dress these up or down and wear them to the office.

and for some reason i dislike this look if the bottom just stops an inch or two from the ground with heels--I have a few trousers like this already and wear them with heels and they just barely graze the floor--it's a much cleaner line/look, imo.

I really love the photos ferwormany posted. The pants look soo comfy, yet chic. I actually bought myself a pair of men's pants and it's my current favourite pants at the moment. :)

This has been my favourite classic piece in my warodrobe. They are so flattering on the body, so comfortable, so loose, so versitiale, so effortless. I have them from synthetic H&M to tailor made wool!

These from Zucca 07 have a fabulous silhouette

Ooo I love these ones too. They seem much more versatile than most of the others. And as you said, can be dressed up or down. Very cute! How do you suggest it should be worn if I'm going for the Frenchie-streestyle look?

Joe's Jeans makes a really good pair called the Muse (available at JoesJeans.com). Diesel makes the Pacee jean (available at revolveclothing.com) which is even wider.

Kate Moss has been wearing these J Brand wide leg jeans:

I am on the lookout for some perfect fitting trouser jeans in dark denim. I don't really prefer the high rise type, but it is a possibility. Does anyone have any top ideas to dress up trouser jeans? I want to avoid looking like I came from the 70's, I want a really modern look.

i thought these were going to be awesome...
but i have tried on several pairs now..
including the joesjeans ones...and i think i may just have to skip this whole thing...

the jeans are so stiff...i felt enormous...
like i had tree trunks for legs...
:yuk:...:ninja:...

i'm thinking of other options...
like jersey wide leg pants that flop around the ankle...
or maybe a nice cashmere pants that drapes nicely...
def something softer and drapier...

i have some frankie-b blue corduoroy flares like the j brand lovestory's that kate moss is wearing in that pic that are great.

tight fit at the but and thighs, flare at the knee. I don't like when jeans get too baggy like those yucky cheap mondays.

still want the lovestorys though, sigh.

When trying to look good in skinny jeans makes you look like a prick, there's always flares and wide legs. I've always liked bell bottoms (especially 70s-style ones) and flared jeans on ladies. You're in Tokyo (or from there?) Melisande. There was this Japanese jean maker that designs bell bottom jeans called Dee Dee Bellbottom < http://www.deedeebellbottom.com > (WARNING: Mostly in Japanese). I think this is nice to know that someone still thinks flares and flowy wide pants are still sexy. I just love the flare of such pants and jeans the most. In America, there is a maker known as Pitaya < http://www.pitayaonline.com > that has some beautiful flared pants and jeans. There are many options towards finding a nice pair of wide-legged or flared pants. Unfortunately, most ladies are too caught up with skinny jeans. Flares (I never admit this) tend to add some length to your legs. I just think nothing can be hotter than seeing a lady's bellbottoms flapping and flowing while walking by.

Another reason why wide pants and flares are great? Not required to tuck them into boots like it's freezing cold or treacherous to walk around. Houston will be in for another Fall and Winter which will see so many ladies too good to keep boots underneath pant legs or flowy gauchos when it isn't seriously cold. And if you've been down here in the Winter, it's not even seriously cold or gets a foot of snow often. Why ladies tuck pants or jeans into boots... explain this to me from the standpoint of a fashion look.

Only skinny bottoms acceptable are usually "pedal pusher" capris. Hope this brings sexy and cute back after a couple of years of long dead and "please get rid of me" trends like the country western deal, the '80s obsession, and leggings under skirts and dresses and whatever else. By the way, I liked that "unleash your inner gangsta" comment someone made on the previous page. The wide legs provide more of an aggressive look. I tend to favor a classy look with wide leg pants, yet is also sexy when paired with a classy top or even a suit. I like a good casual style with ladies in wide-legged jeans or even flares. I tend to think classier looks work slightly better.

i have a great pair of miss 60 wide legged jeans that i've been wearing for a few years now..
the material is soft and sort of thin so they're great for summer and also one of the most comfortable pairs that i own..

i think the flexibility of the jeans and the way it drapes is definitely key to this whole look..
like softgrey said, if the material is too thick or stiff it just makes you look like gumby with those giant block legs...

I feel the same way with wide jeans! I have Chloe - stiff and Paul Smith not as much but still - cotton is not for wide leged pants.
Try heavy but soft material - I have Balenciaga wide pants and they are very heavy in weight, not thickness, and they look amazing; I love the look of these of AMQ

i just can't do the wide-leg jeans... every time i try a new pair on, i just feel like i'm backpedaling into my raver days... even though they're very different... i just can't shake that association... also, i think they make my thighs look huge... :innocent:

i'm sticking to wide-leg pants in tweeds with a little silk in them (for a good drape) and flowy knits, for sure. have a few yards of wool jersey that i was thinking of making into a pair... i'm just wondering if i should line them or not? would that be crazy and ruin the line?
