Will "The Devil Wears Prada" movie inspire people to dress more stylishly?

I think it will totally kick up Prada's sales though...girls will be saving their pennies to buy something "Prada"
and we'll start seeing 50ish women wearing that "Miranda-do"

FYI: you will see "the Devil Wears Prada" style in the fall. B)

In light of the popularity of "The Devil Wears Prada" movie, do you think it will be inspirational to the masses in terms of trying to dress better? Or will the current trend of "It" bags and shoes only (without regard to a total look) continue? I remember during the "Supermodel Era" of the late '90s, people (in general) seemed more interested in turning out a more polished total image. What are your opinions?

Well, I don't think it will inspire people to wear designer (aka Prada) because people simply can't afford it. But, to me, dressing "stylishly" is far different than wearing designer.
It would be nice to think that the movie could encourage people to take larger steps to better their appearace. But, some people are happy with the way they look, even if "we" (the fashion conscence public) don't see it that way. Which is totally fine with me.
I know after seeing the movie, it inspired some outfits that I would like to try during the fall/winter seasons. But for your average person, no I don't think it will do a thing but entertain them for a couple of hours.
Sorry for the ramble

Actually, when I was waiting in line to get into the movie, I turned to my sister and said, "Look around at the women who are going to see the movie. They are all dressed up!" And it was true. Women of ALL ages were all decked out to see the movie-- some older women were dressed very inappropriately at that. It could have been a coincidence, but it seemed as though they were all trying to look fashionable to see the "fashion movie".

Anyway, I walked out of the movie thinking, "OK. I am going to go home, throw out all of my clothes, and start from scratch!" Then again, I think like that everyday....

I definitely think people will leave the theatre uninspired too. The people that are inspired by the movie probably already have a love of fashion and thats why they saw it in the first place.

 that's what i was trying to say in my long ramble.
:flower:

I went to see it last night and every girl there was wearing ae and holding a coach bag, I wanted to barf!

Just to let everyone know, tomorrow night on "Entertainment Tonight" they are covering a story on "how The Devil Wears Prada will influence next season's fashions". :p

I think it wont, but i would love to see people getting more invovled with their style and what they wear!I am so sick of all the boho.etc styles.Bring the polished, dressed up for going to the airport, look.Today people stare at you like your crazy if you are dressed to the nines. And it makes me wonder when did that happen?I guess it will never be like in the 50s,60s when even men used to dress up.People just dont care about their appearance anymore not even public figures and celebs!

I admit that I totally dressed up to see the movie (petit bateau shirt, vince linen pants, marc jacobs patent leather flats and chloe edith bag, my friend thought I was being a sp*z). Anyway, it definitely gave me some inspiration to express more my personal style, since I work in such a boring law office environment. In some ways, I wish I worked in a fashion industry environment, although it seems like there's a lot of pressure to always look tops.

one movie just won't do it. but i think it will give those who are into being fashionable and wanting to be one, more motivation...

I think the point that people are affected by the fashion industry whether they know it or not (early on in the movie when Meryl Streep makes fun of Andrea's sweater) might hit soem people.

At the very least it made me wipe off my thefashionspot account and start posting again.

The movie inspired me to buy shoes, specifically boots, but then I remembered I don't have money to buy shoes, so that was the end of that. I wouldn't be suprised if we saw interpretations of the styles from the movie on regular people, but I have a theory that since the movie was in production for awhile before it was released, and perhaps references the collections from that period (didn't look so don't know) we would be seeing those styles in the mainstream anyways due to the trickle down.

I went to see it last night, and I dunno where you guys lived but where I live no one dressed up...at all. The only girl I saw who looked like she made ANY effort was wearing pink crocs, beige tapered capris, matching pink lacy cami, and pastel blue cropped tie front cardigan things. Crocs. Yes. Crocs. :ninja:

i think this movie will inspire people to either go broke or the credit card companies will start having a party..

it inspired me to wear more chanel. but like some of the other posters, i realized i can't afford to wear chanel at all. so i guess in the end i was just inspired to get a rich boyfriend.

I think people who understand and appreciate fashion will be inspired. Not to go out and get a whole new wardrobe but perhaps to incorporate some of the ideas for the film into their own style. Or perhaps if they've seen an item they liked in the movie they'll go out and get it. I myself am in love with Andy's Chanel charm necklace.

As for the masses I really doubt this film will have an effect. I think the entire culture would have to change in order for a most people to start really dressing well on a full time basis.

TRUE THAT! I was so inspired by the movie, I came to the show in Kenneth Cole Bubble skirt and Moschino flats...but I definitely noticed some leaving looking quite confused.
