Despite PETA's extremely aggressive marketing campaign, fur is here to stay. There is no comparison between faux fur and the real thing. And despite the arguments listed above, most people are not going to see a big difference between leather and fur. Good luck getting people to give up their leather shoes. As for saying leather is different because we eat the cow, don't the fur animal carcasses get made into pet food? Something eats it, just not humans.

As for the gruesome videos, I'm sure you could find videos just as revolting from the meat industry or the pharmaceutical industry. But are you really going to stop eating meat or wearing leather? Or not accept medical treatment for a life-threatening condition? (Interestingly, PETA opposes the use of animals for medical research, yet Mary Beth Sweetland, Sr Vice President of PETA, is a diabetic who uses insulin daily--insulin that was tested on animals and contains animal products. Hypocrisy, anyone?)

Rather than just saying "fur is evil," etc., the push should be to REFORM the fur industry and institute standards for treatment of fur animals. And, in fact, such standards are in place for fur farmers in Europe. Rather than insisting that ALL fur is bad and saying that everyone who wears fur is evil, it would be more productive to draw distinctions based on fur origin, including where it was farmed and if the farm conforms to humane standards.

We exploit animals every day for a variety of uses. I don't see domesticated fur animals as having some special moral status because they are more photogenic, or because their pelts are used to create a "luxury" item. However, I DO believe that, like all animals, they should be treated humanely while they are in our care and their deaths should be swift and humane. Such standards could be straightforward to enforce, given the will.

Actually, in the past ten years, the purchases of fur in the U.S. have decreased more than 20%. Causing many merchants to shut down.
And you can take your "we" and turn into "I". Because you may exploit animals, but I certainly don't.

i hope somehow to have a middle ground...

i think if we use domesticated animals and kill (yes... there's no pretty word for that) them as humanely as possible.. in order to use their:
- flesh as meat
- skin as leather
- fur as fur
then i think that's far better than using wild/endangered animals for pure vanity - and much better than us killing animals inhumanely for their flesh, skin & meat.

Are you sure you know the meaning of "domesticated animals"
Or is Golden retriver fur on a coat something you like seeing? Rabbits are also wild animals in disguise, bred in captivity to be kept as pets.

So, basically, according to yoru statement, you think it's ok to make coats out of dog and cat fur?

i love real fur. its better than fake. id def wear it with pride. i do have a nice real fur purse which i love.

I actually just recieved a red fox fur coat for my birthday...I would never go out and buy a fur jacket, but since it was a gift I'm happy to have it!

I could never own a Chinchilla coat though...I had a pet chin years ago.

welll....all my fur is real but second-hand. I scored the best best ever rabbit fur vest at a thrift store, and I've also got a motorcycle jacket circa 1970 with fox fur around the neck.

not to mention my fur pouch....

I have hated fur ever since I was a child and found one of my mother's old fur coats in the basement and asked her what it was. When I found out it was a dead animal the appeal completely disappeared. It's not only inhumane to slaughter animals to make over-priced "status symbols", it's also (in my mind at least) kind of gross.
Also, I don't really find fur to be all that fashionable. Fur companies hoist their wares on unthinking celebrities in hopes that their fashion decisions will influence the general public. Personally, I'd rather not resemble an elderly lady who lunches, not to mention I enjoy being able to get wet and not smell like a dog.

yes to fur. it how, shows status and never goes out of style.

I'm not trying to single you out, since I know you're not alone with this sentiment of status and asthetic appeal....

Is taking the life of an animal, to wear it's skin, just to "show status and not be out of style" really that worth it? Do you plan on taking these coats with you to the afterlife, much less your grave?

I'm also a little curious about how people have arrived at the conclusion that "animals are meant for us to eat and wear" ....Regardless of whether or not God exists, that's a statement i have a hard time digesting...

Wearing a murdered animal to show you have 'status' reveals ignorance beyond belief, and as for the claim that 'it never goes out of style' - there is NOTHING stylish about fur. To me it represents selfishness, cruelty and utter lack of compassion.

I like my style to be my own and not an innocent animals.

I don't see animals in the same way as I see humans. I feel differently about animals than I do about humans . . .

I don't have a problem with wearing fur, or leather, or crocodile skin, or eating steak, or fried chicken. . .

The reason it's not hypocritical to eat meat, and also be against fur is because you eat meat for nutrition. Wearing fur doesn't benefit you in any real way, and it's not even close to being a necessity as with eating meat.

It is not "nescesary" for me to eat meat, i choose to eat meat- there are no nutrients in meat that cannot be gotten from lentils or dark green leafy vegetables like spinich.- if I wanted to i could chose to be vegetarian- but i don't- i like the taste of meat better than the taste of beans or vegetables.

I like the feel/ look of leather better than I like the feel or look of pleather.

i dont have a problem wearing fur. as long as its vintage/second hand i.e i'm recycling.

Personally I don't care for fur.....and it has nothing to do with PETA.....I can care less about PETA! I don't like it on the floor used like a rug, I don't like it on people, I just don't like it period....it just grosses me out....:yuk: Humans aren't BORN with fur on their body. Fur was meant to be on animals and I like it that way..........

Fur? NO NO NO ...!

If anyone likes fur, wear fake fur...

What's the point of wearing real fur? It's cruel and superficial....!
