Your Interior Decorating Style...

There is no overexposure here ;) I love that shade, I saw it in caramel color on a little lamp (at least that's how it looked in the pic), I would love to find one ...

And thanks for the pix ... I love your panda bear
Panda loves you too

I will definitely look for the reproductions of the artichoke lamp. The only ones I've seen are around $200 and of course look nothing like the original. That last lamp looks like it's out of a fairy tale but was around 18k.

Looking for less than perfect items is a great idea. I've been looking for some older things I can reupholster or repaint, I've never thought of lighting since it's usually not as easy to fix but your that right no one will really see it.

Btw, all my vintage lighting is rewired ... there's an art to finding people to do that :innocent: It's definitely a challenge using salvage, I won't lie to you. But so worth it, I think ... My local architectural salvage has a guy who does this, and they have always come through for me.

Another tip ... check out lighting on eBay. That's where the fixture in my living room came from, and it made my neighbors green with envy. It was also the least expensive of the vintage lighting I bought, and the seller had already rewired it. Of course, you have to wade through a lot of hideous before you find the treasures on eBay ...

The other thing I did was use Google to search for, e.g., "Deco sconces".

Great pics!

Once I finish unpacking and putting my place together Ill have to post pics. Im trying to find an area rug and coffee table for the living room.

Also, I want to do a big chandlier in the living room, but have not found anything to suit my tastes yet.

Thanks for the advice! I finally picked an apartment yesterday in my brothers complex, its on the top floor so it has vaulted ceilings and I'm looking for some kind of large chendelier type light.

And speaking of vintage, I just got a vintage womb chair for about 1/3 of retail. I was going to get a new one so I dont have to get it reuholstered but none of the colors it came in go with my colors. So It's nice I get to pick the exact color I want and still pay less, but I'm clueless about fabric. Does anyone know sites with quality fabric?

I'm moving soon from my 10m2 room to a 45m2 apartment!

I've been roaming thrift stores for furniture, and the internet for inspiration. Since I'm inhabiting an apartment on the 4th floor (steep stairs!) and the living is very small, I need small furniture. I've been looking for a sofa like this:

Some more pics I have for inspiration:

I haven't done reupholstery before, but what I would do is first find a great upholsterer, and then ask them for fabric recommendations ...

PS Love your pix, kanita!

my friends dad has a little upholstery shop, I've seen a couple of his projects which looked great but he doesnt charge much. They're from Belarus like me and he learned to do it there. I didnt think of asking him but your right he'd probably know best.

kanita, I love the last two pics. I have that eames chair picked out for my desk. Just out of curiosity how do room measurement conventions work? I know 10 m is 32 ft but I highly doubt you live in a 32 sq ft apt!

Ooh, I always get lost with this converting thing...

Well, let me put it this way my current room is : 2x5m, which means: 6,6ft x 16ft. I think that would make it 107 sq ft.

That's great that you know someone! Has he worked on modern furniture before? I'm wondering if the techniques may be a bit different ...

gg i would definitely find a fabric store where you can go in and see the fabric choices in person so that you can gage how thick and what the texture of the fabric will be...

you don't want to order something online only to realize that it's not durable or that it's scratchy and uncomfortable..

That's a good point about thickness ... you probably want to match what's on the chair. You may be able to improve on the comfort level of the original fabric ...

^ Perhaps in an entry, hallway, or bath it would work ... it would make for a dramatic formal dining room at night.

The only place I've ever put wallpaper was in a dressing room that was already wallpapered. I guess I don't find it restful ... I also like to hang fairly bold things on the walls, and wallpaper tends to interfere with that.

I went to a resturant for my bfs birthday last night and they had the coolest lamps. They were spheres made of large fake flowers facing out if that makes any sense. While I was looking for something similar I found the (completely different) lamp I want for the big vaulted ceiling  !!

Now I just need to save up for my armchair and coffee table and then I could get this.
