Zac Efron

Zanessa: Cutest Couple Award

The Australians have had their say on the lives and world of the rich and famous, with the 2010 Australian Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. This awards ceremony is aimed at children and teenagers, and is one of Australia’s only chances to have any input into their favorite television, movie, music and famous celebrity.

Australia voted Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as the cutest couple. The ‘High School Musical’ stars beat ‘Twilight’ stars Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart for this award, with newly-married couple Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr as well as newly-reconciled pair Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus also in the running.

The event was held at the Sydney Entertainment Center on Friday October 8. It’s all just a bit of fun and games for the celebrities and the kids of Australia who rarely get a chance to see their favourite stars.

Basinger’s Daughter Pushed Her Into Cloud Role

Kim Basinger almost turned down the chance to play Zac Efron’s mother in “Charlie St. Cloud” until her starstruck teenage daughter convinced her to take on the role. The actress admits she was unsure about whether to accept a part in the “High School Musical” hunk’s new drama, about a young man mourning the death of his brother.

But when Basinger’s daughter Ireland discovered she’d been linked to the role, she “went nuts” and urged her mum to accept the job. She says, “When I mentioned it to my 14-year-old daughter it was the funniest thing. She went nuts. She said, ‘What, not go to Vancouver and not play Zac Efron’s mom?’ She said, ‘You’re crazy!’”

Zac Efron Uncomfortable With Body Flaws

Zac Efron has admitted that he becomes highly aware of his body flaws while watching his own films. Speaking to OK, Efron remarked that he is hopeful he will eventually be able to take a less critical approach to his physical appearance.

“What do I think when I watch myself on screen? ‘My head is huge’,” he commented. “I pick out every single flaw or thing I should have done better. I cringe at first, but years down the road I’ll be able to look back and appreciate what I’ve done – sometimes.”

Despite his aversion to his big screen image, the actor explained that he is usually less anxious than his co-stars before filming love scenes.

“In my experience, I think girls get a little more nervous than I do. I like to be comforting if at all possible,” he said. Kissing is not a hard thing to do. I usually have a very cute girl opposite, so it’s fun.”

Efron recently revealed that he grew a moustache to avoid being noticed by fans at the Coachella music festival

Efron Destined For Charlie Role

Actor Zac Efron knew he was destined to star in sailing drama “Charlie St. Cloud” because he read the script on a boat trip with his father. The star plays the title character, who is a keen sailor mourning the death of his brother, and the “High School Musical” hunk knew he wanted to take on the film project from the very first moment he opened the script.

He explains, “I remember it (the script) was in the bottom of my backpack and I, oddly enough, went on a sailboat with my dad. I opened the script after we had spent the night on the boat and went to the front of the deck and started flipping through the script. The first few pages were on a sailboat and the weirdest thing was as I was reading it the boat started rocking, the wind filled the sails and it was like ‘(God) you have to make that obvious (I should take the part)’.”

Zac Efron Feels Belittled Next To Vanessa Hudgens

‘High School Musical’ star, Zac Efron feels uncomfortable next to his “stunning” girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens. In an interview with German Magazine Joy, Zac Efron has revealed that though he is fond of Vanessa Hudgens, he feels awkward standing next to her.

“Dating Vanessa makes many things much easier, because you understand each other without having to explain a lot,” Zac Efron gushed. “In terms of planning, I am very picky – worse than any woman. I drive everyone mad, except for Vanessa, she is always very understanding. The only disadvantage is that she is always dressed so stunningly that I look awkward and stand out.

Danny DeVito Leads ‘The Lorax’

It could be the most environmentally-conscious movie since “Avatar.” USA Today has the first look at “The Lorax,” the 3-D adaptation of the 1971 Dr. Seuss book in which the gruff title character (voiced by Danny DeVito), pictured, speaks for the trees that are being chopped down by the Once-ler (voiced by Ed Helms), a naive businessman who turns disastrously greedy. Zac Efron will voice the young boy who wants to find the Lorax because even though the Once-ler destroyed the forest, there is still hope for Mother Nature. Betty White will voice the boy’s grandmother, who remembers the world when it was still green.

“They live in an outrageously artificial world where all things natural have been replaced by plastic and steel. It’s like living in Las Vegas,” producer Chris Meledandri, head of Illumination Animation, joked to USA Today.

Rob Riggle will voice another new character, described as “another industrialist who sells cans of fresh air to the polluted world the Once-ler creates and wants to keep it that way.”

Zac Efron Begins Work On Nicholas Sparks Adaptation

The cameras began rolling this week on Zac Efron’s next assignment. He will be starring in the big-screen adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks book “The Lucky One.” The film is being directed by Scott Hicks, director of the Academy Award-nominated “Shine”, and is being filmed on location in Louisiana.

Efron will play Logan Thibault, a marine that has survived three tours of duty in Iraq. He carries a photograph of an unknown woman, believing that it is his good luck charm. When he learns the woman’s name and where she lives, he seeks her out. After the two get to know each other, a romance blossoms between them. The woman, Beth, will be played by Taylor Schilling. Schilling is probably best known for her work on the NBC television series “Mercy.”

Cinematography is being performed by Alar Kivilo, who operated the camera on last year’s highly successful “The Blind Side.” The screenplay was written by Will Fetters, whose first script was last year’s “Remember Me.” The future Warner Bros. Pictures release (which has not officially been titled) is being shot in and around New Orleans.

Zac Efron’s Speedy Visits To Vanessa

Zac Efron has revealed he lives so close to his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens he can get to her house in just seven and a half minutes.

Although they may not have moved in together yet the heartthrob actor – who met the actress on the set of ‘High School Musical’ – has a house in Los Angles close to his sweetheart and has timed his journey to her home.

He said: “We’re not far from each other. We’ve timed it now . If there’s no stop lights and if you take the back streets, you can get there in seven and a half minutes. Yeah, it’s pretty funny. So we’re not living together but we spend a lot of time together. More than not, you know?”

Zac thinks it’s a good thing they don’t live with one another yet and believes the time he and Vanessa have apart from each other when they are working keeps the romance alive in their relationship.

He added to Wonderland magazine: “When we’re filming we spend a lot of time apart, but that’s what keeps it fresh you know? Also, when you’re working you need to be really focused. At least I like to be focused so that time away is important. Then when you come back it’s better than ever.”

Zac, 23, also credits his relationship with 21-year-old Vanessa with keeping him focused on his career and away from the distractions of fame-hungry women.

He said: “What I will say is that there’s lots of drama and distractions and, you know, bulls**t at this age with women that I don’t have to put up with. But at the same time I’m getting to experience the amazingness and the beauty of women. So I’m foregoing all the negative things and really just getting the positive, I think. Being in a relationship has definitely helped me stay focused. I think being in a relationship at this point has kept me out of a lot of things that could have distracted me, could have developed into those distractions. And I’m having every bit as much fun.”

First Look At “The Lorax”

Illumination Entertainment has released the first image from its 3D CG-animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic children’s story about corporate greed and environmental destruction, “The Lorax.” First published in 1971, “The Lorax” chronicles the plight of the environment and the Lorax, a furry, diminutive advocate for the trees (“as the trees have no tongues”) against the Once-ler, whose corporation is destroying the forests of Truffula Trees, starving the Bar-ba-Loots, choking the song from the Swomee Swans and poisoning the waters of the Humming Fish.

It is told through the perspective of a young boy who goes in search of the Once-ler to try to find out why the world is so ugly. The movie will follow the opening of the book, with Zac Efron voicing a young boy named Ted (named after Dr. Seuss’ real name, Theodor “Ted” Geisel) who searches for the Once-ler (Ed Helms, The Office) after his grandmother (Betty White) tells him how colorful the world used to be. Danny DeVito will lend his voice to the Lorax.

In an interview with USA Today, DeVito said that he hopes “The Lorax” will help to wake people up to the environmental destruction happening all around them.

“The Lorax” was written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, the duo behind the script for “Despicable Me” and another big screen adaptation of a Dr. Seuss classic, “Horton Hears a Who.” Paul and Daurio will also co-direct with Chris Renaud (“Despicable Me”).

Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” is slated to open March 2, 2012.

Zac Efron Rumored For ‘Akira’ Adaptation

Slash Film reports a rumor that Zac Efron has been offered the lead role in “Akira,” the upcoming live-action adaptation of the manga series from “The Book of Eli” director Albert Hughes. The report itself strongly underlines that this is just a rumor for now, and we’ll echo their sentiment: don’t take Efron’s casting as gospel.

But if Efron is taking the lead role in “Akira,” it’s almost certainly for the part of Shotaro Kaneda, the young leader of a motorcycle gang called The Capsules. He’s best friends with Tetsuo, a troubled youth with undiscovered psychic powers. Once Tetsuo taps into his destructive telepathic abilities, he becomes drunk with power, forcing Kaneda to lead the charge against his very best friend.

Last we heard, there were rumors that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would star in the film as Tetsuo. The “Brick” actor certainly didn’t deny the talk in June of last year, saying that “you never know” if he might play a role in the film. Additionally, the manga adaptation comes courtesy of Gordon-Levitt’s “Inception” co-star Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way production company, adding some credibility to the possibility of his casting. For his own part, DiCaprio has said that he won’t star in the film.
