82nd Academy Awards

Now, now...........
some of us like him:P

I like Avatar as much as the next person but come on it is not an Oscar winning film.

I still love Aliens, Terminator 1&2 and True Lies but he is a major douche.

Again.....really not necessary

it's so funny for sandra bullock picking up the golden raspberry and the oscar within 2 days - i think she won similar to julia roberts for erin brokovic

actually I would have liked District 9 to win best picture :P

Sandra gave a very good speech

Steve Carell should host next years Oscars

I can't help it I'm walking on air that a woman won best director! ^_^

is he? i've met him and he's a really smart, nice guy. yes, he knows he's smart and he knows he talented, but that doesn't make him a douche. he's driven and a perfectionist and that is why it took him years to make avatar.

i saw the hurt locker before all the hype and i thought it was great but would i go see it multiple times? no. have i seen avatar multiple times? yes. am i a big nerd? maybe. :D

but seriously, so much went into making avatar and there is a reason why avatar is the biggest grossing film of all time. he may be a big action director but avatar had everything in terms of a cinematic experience for an audience. :flower:

hey i liked ben stiller presentation the best

guys, will there be a new thread for the after party looks?

Yes District 9 was an excellent movie.

she made history

this is definitely Erin Brokovich all over again. Good performance but not the best performance of the year. I wouldn't be disappointed if it went to someone more deserving like Helen or Carrey.

Now I need to hit the hay and take some time to marinate on the looks... as of right now, however, I am terribly underwhelmed by tonight's fashion. Carey and Zoe are the only people that really lived up to my expectations; everyone else was either underwhelming (Diane Kruger) or just looked bad (Charlize Theron).

i'm happy for kathryn, but the hurt locker was not the best movie of the year. with all this hype, people will go out and watch it for the first time and will be disappointed with the film. i saw the hurt locker months ago and i thought it was great, but avatar blew my mind out of the water with everything that went into it. james cameron is a genius. avatar should have won best picture.

it was definitely hurt locker's night.

Although I am very happy it won (!), I agree that The Hurt Locker wasn't the best picture - Inglorious Basterds was.

I know people have different tastes etc, but suggesting Avatar should've won best picture is utterly laughable, sorry to say. It shouldn't even have been nominated for BP. It won the awards it deserved.

YAY!!!!! SANDRA PREVAILED!!! You go girl. Five months ago NOBODY would have even thought that she'd be a contender for the awards. Just goes to show you that one never knows. I'm so happy she won. It was a great star performance and she seems like SUCH A SWEET person.

I'm more upset that the Best Actress winner is wearing a dress by freakin' MARCHESA. Ugh, I am sick and tired of them and their generic eveningwear dresses.

Ugh, I know. This is the snub in me talking. I thought she actually looked great and the dress looked GORGEOUS on that stage, but knowing that it's Marchesa was just such a downer. But in all honesty though, it was light years better than last year's YSL dress, which goes to show you that the label is not always a good sign.

So does this mean that Bullock's gonna forego her cheesy romcoms thats been her bread and butter? i mean, she's a serious actress now, right?

Kristen Stewart looks so uncomfortable with evening gowns , like if she is wearing a custom  The hollywood glamour is not for her...

why is it utterly laughable? why was it so bad?

I COMPLETELY AGREE. Avatar being considered "Best Film of the year" is a joke. The film is all visual effects. NOTHING ELSE. It won that. Plus it also got Cinematography (not deserving) and Art Direction (I can live with that) for good measure. Plenty enough.

The Hurt Locker was such an incredible win. When you look at its budget and the little money it made at the box office going up against the juggernaut that was Avatar, how can you NOT be happy for its win? Also, I don't know how you can think it wasn't a good movie. I'd really like to hear your reasoning on that. (I'm just talking to anyone who didn't like The Hurt Locker)

OMG it's nearly 5.30am. I'm off to bed.
It's been a good night/early morning hanging out.
I am so happy there was Couture.

That was a very sedated red carpet: no big disasters and no real stand-outs aside from Zoe and Diane.

On the awards front, Kathryn absolutely deserved best director (and I couldn't care less that she's a woman) but Hurt Locker winning for best movie and best screenplay is a total joke.
The plot is tenuous at best and the movie will have no long term impact. It's just a very well directed but ultimately shallow thriller.
Tarentino should have won screenplay and IB was the best movie among the nominees. Avatar was also more deserving than Hurt Locker.

Otherwise, aside from the Bullock travesty I am pleased with the results, especially the technical ones.
