85th Annual Academy Awards (2013) #2

Listen, having the first lady promote the arts? This is amazingly good imo! It's nice to hear that the arts matter - not just to some of us.

Come on Argo!!
EDIT: YAY!!!! GO, ARGO!!!! Haters gone hate, but I love it!

Argooo... what a shocker, I'm just happy it wasn't Lincoln.

If you look at it from that perspective (promoting arts) or the fact that the film industry is major in the US, yeah, but I still feel like government and show business shouldn't be blended that much.. partly for what they represent, the issues that concern them, an image that's not of entertainment.. ugh. I don't know. Cultural barrier for me maybe, this is so.. no.

Agreed. Plus, the Obamas are already perceived as being too tight with Hollywood/entertainment industry.

I agree with you so much about this. It's great to have someone so well respected and with a wide audience to promote the arts.

Ugh, PITY WIN.
I wouldn't call it a pity win. As the guilds (SAG, PGA and DGA) showed, there was love for this film. It's just that the directors branch didn't nominate Ben Affleck. The whole Academy votes for the winners, not the nominees.

I don't know how to feel about this. Jacqueline Durran is probably the only deserved win of the night, lol. Just...ugh.

There was love at the SAG, GG, etc. because people felt bad he didn't get nominated for Best Director.
