Abercrombie & Fitch

Umm.. yeahhh... stupid reference.
Given that the entire point of clothings brands revolves around some form of image and the designers certainly don't use themselves as reference to target marketing.

Actually, he does. The thing about Abercrombie is that ALL of their employees are expected to represent the brand, especially the designers. Jeffries makes many of his final decisions on everything from design to merchandising...to what is served in the cafeteria...based on his own personal outlook and connection to America's (and now the world's) youth culture. As you can see in the photo he does identify with the target market and makes decisions accordingly. He often restyles mannaequins himself in order to acheive the look he personally ascribes to. The fact that Jeffries has put himself so readily into the product has been key to the company's growing success.

^ Agreed. A brand with such a strong vision as Abercrombie needs someone who literally lives (or tries to) that vision...

Hollister is similar to A&F but its more california influenced. expensive clothes hard to find clothes and smells like too much perfume and the place is too dark.

Sorry i didn't read the whole thing, just 5 or 6 pages but I wanted to bring up Ruehl 925 (is that the right number?). I remember I lived in Honolulu when they opened a shop in Ala Moana. It's supposed to be the A&F for the "young professional" - the kids who grew out of Abercrombie and aren't in college anymore and now have real jobs but are still young and hip. It's rumored to be even pricier than A&F and to compete with designer shops. At least that's what I was told. The store is supposed to look like a Brownstone from Grenwich Village. When I went into the shop though I was so disappointed. THe clothing was barely distinguishable from what you see at A&F, the prices were slightly higher though not comparable to designer boutiques and the quality, I won't even go there. One thing I liked was they had little lounges. But I don't know who would spend a long enough time in the store to need a lounge. I can see Asian tourists salivating about it but really it's not worth it. :innocent:

some of their stuff is really well made, i agree that it's absolutely overpriced, but some stuff is really pretty and well constructed, they really seem to look at quality materials

It reminds me of an american version of forum(brasil). (I'm probably alone with this thought)

I see that too. Their stuff is really casual, but the material they use are quite good. Their designs appeal to teenagers mostly.

i saw candids of victoria beckham shopping at the flagship a&f store in la like last year. and occasionally i see david beckham wearing their polos. yuck.

yes exactly. off topic but somewhat relatable- my friend works at hollister and told me all of their ghastly ways. she says that they rate their employees by looks meaning they put the "pretty" (probably the most tanned or thin) ones in the front when you walk in and descends in attractiveness as you go to the back. A&F does this too and this was one reason they were sued for being racist- because they were putting non caucasians only in the back.

That's something that I've noticed as well. And another weird but OT thing-most people do not know how to take checks and it is always funny how they put them in the machine the wrong way time after time.

I work at abercrombie and i love it. Not to offend anyone but it is a job, and quiet franky im good at it. And believe it or not but not everyone i work with is sooo "beautiful".

just something to state.

yeah i heard about that and its weird though they spray the perfume in the store every hour. they put music really loud same thing with A&F. The A&F used to be a respected store until recent years. I work in a mall and you can hear their (Hollister) music from far away. I try to apply for a job there and the manager said he wanted to work b/c there was good looking girls. i think those stores are too much.

I walked past an A&F yesterday at the mall by my house and the cologne/perfume smell radiating from the store was so heavy I got a splitting headache, a stuffy nose, and watery eyes. And I didn't even go IN to the store, just walked past!

Stores shouldn't be giving people allergic rhinitis.

When I worked there in high school, every sunday morning we had to clean the store and when we cleaned up the forms, we had to spray cologne on them too. After a while you can't smell it anymore!

The entire central atrium of my local mall smells of A&F, its most fragrant tenant. You can hear the store from miles away as well.

My mall does not have an A&F but I work at Bath and Body Works and we used to be right across from Hollister. Their music was not to the point where you would hear it from a mile away-more like 8 feet. Also they spray their perfumes but at our mall, you couldn't tell because of our oil warmers.

I bought a pair of pants from A&F at a different shopping centre though (about 4 weeks ago, haven't worn or washed them yet) and they still smell like Ezra Fitch or whatever they spray.
