If you want to "test out" how the wash will look on you, they're a pretty easy DIY you can do with an old pair of jeans. Link for directions: http://www.thatsjustmyvibe.com/2008/08/bleached-jeans-how-to.html
If you wanted a more "splattered" effect like that Siwy pair, I think you could get away with spraying the bleach out of a spray bottle + the squirting method. I just did a couple pairs and they turned out nicely. And as far as them making your legs look bigger, it didn't have that effect on me but I do have scrawny chicken legs...
I seen an amazing pair of acid wash jeans in Nylon magazine in the August 2007 denim issue. I dont know if im being blind but i oddly cant find who they are by. For anyone who has that issue the jeans im talking about are on page 60
I did some bleaching in a black pair of skinny jeans I wasn't using anymore, the bleach wasn't strong so it turned to a black/brown almost orange bleach, really crazy, but better than i thought it would be!
Acid wash always reminds me of the newer generation of punks they seem to be wearing them, or This is England, I dont think I would wear them, I think acid wash is something you wear if your part of some kind of counter cultural gang!
I think they look great on other people, just not my personal style. But I think my fellow blogger Jessie would look fab in them. I tend to stay with the classics.
i love it as an ageing effect..
rather than a kind of pattern..
has a beautiful grain..
i have pants that look like it
but they are actually tiny tie-dyed threads creating these soft stripes
from far away, they look light grey or acid washed
the effect you were describing--"tiny tie-dyed threads creating these soft stripes". def interested in seeing the effect close up or a super hi-res of the garment from an online shop or something. :]
