Page Six about Chloe Malle: Anna Wintour closing in on daughter of famous actress to take over Vogue: sources
Magazines really are dead, I think. Look beyond fashion magazines. Magazines about every topic have been shuttering or reducing their circulation rates. There’s a reason why so many magazines now are those special commemorative theme issuesI wouldn't say that magazines are dead. What's dead or dying is the system in which they have been operating for the past decades. The issue is that those in power don't want to acknowledge it and make necessary changes. No wonder people lose interest when they can have the same low-quality content for free on social media.
Print is not dead but glossies as we knew them, seems to cherish them but paradoxically never support them as we claim to love them, are dead.I wouldn't say that magazines are dead. She would be crazy to leave IG for Vogue under the title Head of Content.Apparently the rumor said that the strongest candidate so far is Eva Chen?
But do they really deserve support? I often feel that people in power never ask themselves why anyone would want to buy a particular issue. Maybe they should think about who they actually want to reach, because judging by what they are publishing, it doesn’t connect with anyone. I understand changes in the system and the way we consume media, but I don’t think that justifies the huge drop in quality in every aspect. Glossies as we understood them for the past decades are dead, but that should motivate a change in approach, and I don’t see that happening.Print is not dead but glossies as we knew them, seems to cherish them but paradoxically never support them as we claim to love them, are dead.
The people in power are trying their hardest in fact to slow or cover their long death.
The eco-system that contributed to those magazines has totally changed. The notion of content also and also, what people expect from a fashion magazine.
Vogue has become such a mass brand under Anna’s reign that people seems to forget that it is at it core an elitist magazine.
Glossies can’t compete today with digital but also cannot compete with their glorious past.
They are talking about Selby Drummond, who was accessories director at Vogue (and who was very involved in the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund), then left to work in tech. She would be a great choice, actually. She's sharp and stylish.I TOLD YA!
And I told you already her name. (My bet is CLAIRE THOMSON-JONVILLE for sure. She will bring new energy to Vogue US. Don’t forget that Anna put her in Vogue France. On her appointment Anna Wintour said "Claire brings a depth of experience as a stylist, fashion editor and journalist, and she has an incredibly exciting vision for Vogue France. Maintaining its French character is of paramount importance to her, as is the discovery of new talent in fashion, wellness, beauty, arts, and culture. She is already off to a wonderful start and I am excited to see the title reflect her sensibility and point of view.”)
We all knew from the start. But she is a good choice. She might be obediant, but she’s bold and has a great style.
Yes they deserved support. The problem is that on going gap between what people consume and are obsessed by and what they claims they want. But do they really deserve support? Maybe magazines like Vogue don’t make sense anymore, I don’t really know. When I look at small or independent publications I have the same issue. I rarely find anything compelling. Karl was right that we have the fashion we deserve, and unfortunately, that applies to every related field. It's sad but the current state of things is a reflection of the world we are living in. It's quite depressing.
I would love the see a publication with a strong point of view, that has something special, unique, interesting. It doesn't even have to be elaborate but just honest.
