After Anna : Who Should Be The Next Editor In Chief of Vogue?

But in all seriousness, how much say would Anna W even get?

But in all seriousness, how much say would Anna W even get?
A lot. She is not only Editor-in-Chief of Vogue since 1988, she also serves as global chief content officer of Conde Nast since 2020, where she oversees all Condé Nast publications worldwide, and concurrently serves as artistic director. Wintour is also global editorial director of Vogue.

These candidates better start working harder then. Condé Nast will fall even more if they were to get any of these people mentioned. Anna is such a powerhouse and when she goes Condé Nast will be declining faster than a hospice patient on their death bed. Unless of course the Newhouse family finally gets more involved and spending some money to keep the legacy company going. Removing Robert Lynch would probably be the first great move. Need someone who sees the value in both print and digital. As much as everyone preaches that digital is the future, there is no power at Vogue without a print product. And frankly none of these digital media companies or influencers have any significance like Vogue. Too many competing and highly over saturated. And none of them seem to be building any real relationships with the fashion conglomerates, too busy trying to take a 1000 pictures of them holding their latest mini designer handbag. To maintain a strong foothold in the real world one needs a physical product still that keeps you at the top because it’s a luxury and expensive product to create showing you have money. Remember Condé Nast himself was very concerned with the perception and appearance of luxury and power than actual monetary gains. So what better way to say you have so much cash flowing than a monthly print product which is apparently just obsolete despite circulation numbers stabilizing.
But not to worry I really don’t see Anna going anywhere until she dies. Like Karl she is a workhorse and wants to have too much control over all aspects. And by that time most of the people mentioned will be too old for the role.
Not to mention none of these people scream luxury icons. Nina Garcia became popular on a mass media tv show prancing some of the worse and cheapest fashion looks in history. Virginia Smith is too mousy and doesn’t have any celebrity outside a very insular fashion industry. Sara Moonves is just a plain Jane with a horrible editorial direction. Edward has got too many chips on his shoulder and his brand failed. Samira Nasr is a travesty of an editor and again too plain. Amy Astley is maybe the strongest contender but she really needs to find a way to get more media spotlight on her. She is the only one that can exude any sense of a luxury force she just seems to lacks the resources to be decorated as such.

^No to both of those. While one is a stronger personality and recognized she doesn’t have what it takes to really lead a huge brand because ultimately the American Vogue editor is the supreme mouth piece from on high or as always acted as such. And the other is such a whiner and dresses like a banker going home after their mundane 9 to 5.

I know self-promotion is the name of the game, but I don't think I could cope with another five years of a man using a woman's magazine to promote himself, with another series of FIRSTS where EDWARD ENNINFUL is here to tell us about how wonderful it is that EDWARD ENNINFUL is the first person to put someone or something on the cover, instead of just letting the cover speak for itself.

There are positive things I could say about his Vogue - but I certainly don't miss that aspect.

Personally, even if Enninful's self promotion was happening, it did not bother me one bit. All I cared about was the product, the printed pages, and I enjoyed many fashion moments in his UK Vogue.

Lady must be really tired to do that. Not expecting someone iconic as her (because there's none). I doubt CN will call someone from the competition (Nina, Samira, Carine, etc.).

The only person with the amount of star power to replace Anna Wintour is Edward Enninful. Such a missed opportunity now that Edward has started his own company and is set to launch his own magazine in September.

You can guarantee Wintour will select someone she can control, and someone within her circle.

Completely agree with you.

^Honestly probably the best choice internally and Condé Nast could definitely promote her and have her do a media/pr tour going to an avalanche of events to appear to have more star quality/power before the promotion would be announced.

If we follow the pattern of other Vogues Head of Editorial Content, I think they will go with someone younger, since the focus is no longer in print products but more on digital.

Amy, Virginia Smith, Mark Holgate, Tonne Goodman, Nicole Phelps I think is too old for the role. They prob want someone for the long term.

Other possible candidates if they want to promote internally: Chloe Malle, Taylor Antrim, Laia Garcia Furtado, Naomi Elizee, Marley Marius, Christian Allaire, Jose Crialez, Laird Borrelli Persson.

If they want to promote someone with more fashion editorial background: Max Ortega, Julia Sarr Jamois, Alex Harrington, Tabitha Simmons? or even GKJ

I think a possible candidate is actually in your list.

All the high profile people like Edward or Nina will never be at Vogue as Head of content. Those established names will be part of the conversation when Anna leaves Vogue all together.

I just had this funny thought what if it’s Marc Jacobs? Like, last year was the first time ever Anna actually let someone else edit an issue which is super rare for her. What if that was her test run to see if M.J. could handle Vogue and she’s actually known for a while that she was gonna step down?
