These candidates better start working harder then. Condé Nast will fall even more if they were to get any of these people mentioned. Anna is such a powerhouse and when she goes Condé Nast will be declining faster than a hospice patient on their death bed. Unless of course the Newhouse family finally gets more involved and spending some money to keep the legacy company going. Removing Robert Lynch would probably be the first great move. Need someone who sees the value in both print and digital. As much as everyone preaches that digital is the future, there is no power at Vogue without a print product. And frankly none of these digital media companies or influencers have any significance like Vogue. Too many competing and highly over saturated. And none of them seem to be building any real relationships with the fashion conglomerates, too busy trying to take a 1000 pictures of them holding their latest mini designer handbag. To maintain a strong foothold in the real world one needs a physical product still that keeps you at the top because it’s a luxury and expensive product to create showing you have money. Remember Condé Nast himself was very concerned with the perception and appearance of luxury and power than actual monetary gains. So what better way to say you have so much cash flowing than a monthly print product which is apparently just obsolete despite circulation numbers stabilizing.
But not to worry I really don’t see Anna going anywhere until she dies. Like Karl she is a workhorse and wants to have too much control over all aspects. And by that time most of the people mentioned will be too old for the role.
Not to mention none of these people scream luxury icons. Nina Garcia became popular on a mass media tv show prancing some of the worse and cheapest fashion looks in history. Virginia Smith is too mousy and doesn’t have any celebrity outside a very insular fashion industry. Sara Moonves is just a plain Jane with a horrible editorial direction. Edward has got too many chips on his shoulder and his brand failed. Samira Nasr is a travesty of an editor and again too plain. Amy Astley is maybe the strongest contender but she really needs to find a way to get more media spotlight on her. She is the only one that can exude any sense of a luxury force she just seems to lacks the resources to be decorated as such.
