Alexander McQueen F/W 09.10 Paris

Drag queen makeup and hair, platforms, hobbling skirts all seem like gay fodder to me.
Leigh Bowery getups for women doesn't strike me as emancipating women. Quite the opposite.
I have seen the fashion show grow to such prominence to the detriment of what it is that we are doing..clothing women not playing dressup in front of the camera.
Fashion is too corporate and too democratic.
Designers are already taking to alternatives (even Gareth Pugh!)
Fashion needs to be available to a few like it used to be, not flashed across the internet for entertainment, that is my point. Perhaps then we can reflect and really create something unique.

I'm a huge fan of his immense talent, but how exactly does McQueen earn a living? Surely there are only a handful of women in the world who buy those dresses (which must cost a fortune to produce!)

Correct me if I am wrong, but you think, the fact that the fashion is brought to everyone via internet (and all other media incl) lowers the artistic moment of it?
I do not agree and I deffinitely would not go that far to say that "internet makes the fashion available for everyone"... especially to state this about McQueens dresses is plain insane in my opinion.

As much as I LOVE him, I was thinking the exact same thing...

This is the dark knight & sin city of fashion! :woot:
unnerving, mad, trying to confuse you with the illusions..
there's definitely great fashion beyond the dramatic performance

Try walking into a Alexander McQueen store/outlet. You won't see dresses like this, but sharper more 'normal' clothes at luxe prices ;) (nothing negative against his wearables, they are amaaaazing)

^ Yes and accessories, of course.

He does a roaring trade in scarves (and bags and shoes, too, to an extent). :)

this is such a bizzarre yet amazing collection.
I really do not consider that this should be called a visual masturbation or a circus. I think that its pretty clear that these looks arent supposed to be worn exactly the way they are presented, i mean... during fashion shows designers are aiming to delight or shock ,but whatever the case is they're presenting a collection as a whole, as a point of view. It's a concept , a proposition to the public and this particular collection yes it's extreme, yes it's odd and yes probably most women wouldn't wear those dramatic and eccentric looks... but creativity and diversity are lately so lost that i really thank Mcqueen for all that drama.

A model was told she had been selected to be in one of McQueen's shows.
"How much money?" she asked
"A million dollars," she was told.
And she replied, "I'll pay it."

Other designers see his work and shout, "Where do i go to surrender?"

Long live the McQueen.

^hahahaha

walk into Target. see it for yourself.

Personally, I'm tired of people talking about the bloody "rules" of the catwalk, and the functionality of the runway-show. All the designers have showroom-appointments for buyers, so why not stage the runway as a mood-setter? A theatrical and story-telling show in which you can get a real taste of what this collection is about, not just "hey... here are the clothes" - why not? Because it's "visual mastrubation"? All the catwalk shows are about the visuals, why not make it flashy? I'm not asking this to be difficult, but because you speak like this isn't your opinion, but from a critical analysis point of view. So for the sake of discussion, why not throw a show? The pieces McQueen sells are amazing because of the subtle details, the cuts, the fabrics and the mood they carry - something that would be lost if you just put it on a model, put some black eyeliner and mascara on them and tell them to "walk down there, strike a pose and walk back, and do it fast!".

 McQueen doesn't make clothes, he makes art. And his shows are his galleries.

I don't know much about art (or fashion...yet) but I can feel the emotional pull from certain designers. I do not think it's coincidental. And McQueen is visceral.

Let me just say...the details save this collection.
