Alexander McQueen F/W 2006.07 Paris

^^^ You’re being too kind. Sad is what’s happened to Prada, Burberry, Chanel... What’s happened to McQueen is… That episode of The Simpsons when Homer’s long-lost brother Herb lets Homer design a car that singlehandedly ruined his company and wiped out his fortune, is exactly what’s going on here. The brilliant satire that was The Simpsons 30 years ago is now a reality. You know, when I saw that Cowan person dressing Roger in an episode of American Dad, I thought that the show parodied some NYC designer perfectly: fashions for cartoon characters. To realize that he’s an actual “designer” was such a punch in the throat hilarious. Same with this lessest installed at McQueen.

however, i do think that in some of his haute couture collections for givenchy, mcqueen achieved something so extraordinary. he was at the height of his creative and technical powers, and it very much shows in collections like the japanese garden (spring 98) and fall 1999 (it's criminal the only existing footage of this show online is such shoddy quality).
Shame there's so little of his last couture show, Spring 2001. From what I've seen, that really was a grand showcase of what he learnt at Givenchy even if wasn't close to the house at all. That being said, that collection really parlayed itself into the coming RTW collection at his own label, particularly Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (Fall 2002; heinous to type out but I committed...) and Irere.

Personal favourites will always be Eshu, The Overlook, Pantheon ad Lucem and Deliverance. Also still enjoy the runway thumper that is Neptune. But I'm biased, because to see some of the looks slinking down the runway to Aretha's "Rock Steady" is rather fun and flirtatious.

Sadly @unforgettable_runway has the video, here's a video he uploaded some weeks ago of Erin O'Connor.

He must be terrified that other people would have it and post it online, because then he wouldn't have something to brag about and build his name out of.
