Alexander McQueen F/W 2006.07 Paris

I don't know what you guys think of this, but the way the feathers are positioned (the ones channeling the eagle, like the 2nd photo posted by cosette), reminds me of the shadow images we used to make on the wall with our hands when we were kids... I'm in love with them....

So what you are saying, is that to create the winds the designer has to be "new"... I find this notion and fixation of the "new" a bit naive, both in fashion or any artform, because it's not so much the fact of being "new", it's more the creative energy and the events, which are generated, that I think, creates the winds... and pushes the envelope.. which is far from anything related to the concept of "being new"... And eventhough th wind McQ is generating might go in another direction, but what an hurricane it is.... here is to McQ for "daring" going this way....
For Simons or who ever is creating the buzz around, comes from the creative energy they generate, and not some ideal of "being new"....^_^

Not that the designer has to be "new", but when you recycle the looks over and over, no matter how exquisitely you make them (yes, this collection is beautifully made and I love a few of the simpler looks), the wind is going to be knocked out of the sail. He's been doing this direction for years, tried changing it to adapt to changing times, but not quite the success expected and went back again. This isn't "daring", it's about de-fanging the previous themes (highlander blood is now a splattering of red lace), looking for a safe harbour, building a crowd pleaser. Frankly, even the holographic "magic show" isn't that astonishing, reminds me of a holographic Lord of the Rings advertisement I saw once... and wasn't there also some holographic advertising in a Copenhagen boutique? Anyway, enough said. Must look at other collections.:D

I find it quite "daring" to luck yourself into the intimite moment of your own repetition... and not just follow the direction of where the winds might blow...
I don't see the defanging prospect of the repetition, I find the difference there... but that just shows us that we see it differently, which is great...:flower:...
As Picasso so "daringly" puts it...
"I shiver by the thought of copying myself. But when they show me a portfolio with my old drawings, I never doubt for one moment to take everything from them, that I can use"...
and here..
"I have never done tests or experiments. Everytime I have had something to say, I have said it, in the way, as I thought it should be said. It is obvious, that different motives demands different methods of expression. This justifies neither to talk about development or progress; this is simply an adamption to the idea, you wish to express, and to the method you choose to express the idea"...
I think these qoutes puts it in a nutshell, we are so fixed on this experimenting and development for it's own sake(I think I can here echoes of in your posts..), that we forget the idea... the safe harbour is to just ride the winds... How safe was it when everybody suddenly had to deconstruct because the winds where going in that direction... the "daring" is to luck your self into the moment of inspiration and the lack of inspiration intimite meeting... and explore that, even if it means repeating your self...
The conclusion...:innocent: ;) :flower:

I am amazed each time I view it. It never fails. I love clicking on this thread.

I like the makeup too. It's very spring-ish. But I think it works very well.

I agree... I love clicking on this thread too... Gosh, it is gorgeous! I love this collection and Celine's this season... I want one of everything in both!

A beautiful collection by far. It's nothing new by McQueen standards, and dare I say it's doesn't even seem to be in the direction fashion is moving this season, but after the last two less-than-stellar seasons I'm willing to overlook that.
