Alexander McQueen S/S 11 Paris

I love the fact it is so Lee but with a hint of Sarahs kind of commercial approach, i like how she has gone into his archives and brought his best works back to life, the shoes and the prints are fantastic!....

To be her first collection it's good. It's not great, it's obviously not Lee, but it's also not disrespectful of him. It's good. Just that.

I don't really understand why she had to keep the prints. All right, Lee was quite fond of them for the few seasons, but shouldn't we move on? It got quite boring by far.

Some of these are really beautiful, though.

i think she was the direct responsible for the prints in the first place. Im not 100 per cent sure but if i remember correctly she was the one that directly dealt with the prints

I think she has done a pretty perfect first collection for the brand.

some things are good, some things suck, i really don't know what to think

Ok guys settle down, this is her big debut, she has to stick to the identity of the brand so as to let the customer know this is still Mcqueen their buying, Im interested in her presentation 2 seasons from now, thats when I'll be watching with my magnifying glass

I guess people are gonna hate....Sarah can't please everybody and it must of been a very hard thing to try and live up to McQueen but i think she did a fab job!!

Some really beautiful pieces in this collection.

I think she's doing great, this being her first women's RTW for McQueen. You can see old collections shining through and with it classic McQueen elements. I have nothing against it being commercial and a bit of a tribute, she's establishing herself as a designer.
I'm hopeful, the future looks bright.

I totally agree with you! She needs to create something of her own based on McQueen's work...so it will take a while to sink in...But she is doing great...Totally one of the best shows this season!!!

lol, I can't believe you're asking that. Anyway, Sarah Burton, who worked with McQueen for years, was appointed as the new brand's designer a few months ago. And we are all dying to see what she has in store, since she was always very close to McQueen, the man, and McQueen, the brand.

Thanks for your reply - and also thanks to Style Savvy. :flower:

I follow fashion only as an obsession but work in a different field (though I did work for 10 years in fashion prior to my current incarnation). And after Lee died, I heard some rumours about Gareth Pugh taking over, but nothing since then, in part because I stopped following. I was so sad by McQueen's loss that I haven't worn my McQ since.

HOWEVER!!!!! Wow I am impressed with this collection, and I am happy to hear that Sarah was chosen as designer, as you can see Lee's influence here.

While I agree it's not the magic McQueen used to bring, give the girl a break..

It's a good collection, does it lack something.. yup it does, but what has she done now solo?.. 1,5 collection? That's not nearly enough for her to find her groove in this all. I hope in a couple of seasons we can see what magic she can bring to the clothes.. until then I'm perfectly fine with good collections that make her grow and learn.

I'm so positively surprised! This is such a challenge but I think she got away with it quite elegantly. She had her own small signature at the same time that she used this collection as a total hommage to his work. I see something from pretty much all of his collections applied into a whole new design. This could be the start of something new and something beautiful.
