i think this collection will top every balenciaga collection so far. very modern and sophisticated.

YES YES YES. :woot: :bounce: I agree.

I was actually a little bit hesitant to click on this thread, as my expectations of Balenciaga had been set quite high because of the last two spectacular seasons, and I'm so happy to say that I'm not disappointed, and he's surpassed those expecations once again...

Very wearable... love the shapes... and those hats

Yes, I thought he'd somehow made their legs look particularly twiggy.

Great choices Kimair, they were pretty much my favourite looks too!

it's those giant shoes.

I love the equestrian references!
It may not be as visually stunning as the S/S06 collection but it's still beautiful. I love how volume and pomp has been tamed and controlled - it's very pleasing to the eye. Not sure if the helmuts are there for aesthetic effect or actually meant for common wear. The use of checks is also lovely.... again very restrained and accomplished.

I agree with you. I like it... it's the only intrpretation of the 60's era that I would actually see myself wearing... and there is something futuristic in it that appeals to me...

I'm not sure that I can explain what I mean.I'm very bad at explaining myself in fashion terms I'm afraid... bye...

At first glance of the pics, I didn't like the collection. But looking through the pics again, especially some of the close-ups, I am loving the details of the individual pieces, esp. the coats and dresses. And I LOVE their vintage yet modern design and cut! What I really love most are the coats/jackets in this collection.

To wear the pieces as they are presented on the runway is tough (can those shoes get any higher???), but I think wearing any of the pieces individually with whatever you already have is totally doable.

This is incredibly chic, beautifully proportioned, a bit retro, not inventive, but I would wear EVERYTHING. I'm glad he cleaned up and got rid of last season's frou-frou and excessive details. The trouble is, at the smaller boutiques I visit, a lot of them are already doing this bubble-shape and A-line coats with gathered hems for this winter, so it will probably be massive for next fall. That's the problem when the designer isn't innovating in a new direction. This should have been last season's collection. Still, this epitiomises Parisian chic, if there's still such a thing.

Thank you for putting it so well, last season was definately too much for me, this collection is much more my cup of tea. It's a collection very true to it's label, also very different from Ghesquiere's last few collection. The detailing here is beautiful, yet not too overwhelming.

Definitely my cup of tea too Ella. :) I agree with Zazie too in regards t the frou-frou excessive detailing - just too much IMO, though very beautiful and fun to look at.

I like this very much, especially the plaid printed coats. Im not a fan of all the ruffles, but overall is a nice collection.

Overall, I'm liking it (on the models that is). Hate the plaids though. To me there's something Jacobs for vuitton about it, it the shapes and the necklines of the coats.

while this collection is obviously not as wearer-friendly as the last couple of season's collections there are still a few pieces that grabbed my attention. However, I doubt that the mini jackets which I particularly like would work on my 5'5'' frame? - they'd probably make me look short and fat (BAD...).

This is my favourite look : (pic vogue.it)

I like it - refined and elegant. But I do feel that it's a bit (fashion reviewer) crowd pleasing to stick to the early 60s references B) I absolutely adored the nautic themed outfits, a bit more gutsy in addition to the elegance.:flower:

I just called the boutique in NYC. the trunk show will be March 20 and 21st. you can ask for invitation.
spring items will start arriving in mid March :D

Really, really, really interesting changes. Sadly, it just doesn't appeal to me the way the other collections have. Oh well. :( But I certainly appreciate it. Very intrigued/impressed.

Slightly dissapointed after last sseasons amazing collection, but im still digging this. The hats are very cool imo and the collection definetly gets better near the end.

To me it feels like a lot of this is more or less lifted right out of the 60's. Practically vintage, not really modern re-interpretations... I'm underwhelmed.

I think this is a miss step for Ghesquire

My main issue are the references to the archives. Cristobal stopped doing alot of these things in his career for a reason. He moved on and it seems like a mistake to reincorporate them so literally. The way in which they are being used it off putting. They look more like gimmicks and actually seem disrespectful to the house rather than celebratory. Ghesquire recently was granted access to the archives so I understand his anxiousness to explore, I think he has been unable to interpret the real attitude and perspective Balenciaga had. Issey Miyake and Bernhard Willhelm for Capucci were far more successful in that regard (not that they weren't trying).

The references also begin to take away from Ghesquire's own voice which has changed from handicapp to the driving force of the brand. In his attempts to meld the two the synthesis is less than nice. Things begin to become muddy and cloud of ambivalence forms. I am not exactly sure what Ghesquire is trying to say or even if it is something that should be listened to.

It's still a nice collection I suppose. Plenty of pieces that will sell but no apparent hot items that were seen in the last couple of collections. It's those items that the brand needs to gain noteriety and pull themselves into the black. This is totally anti-climatic to the momentum that he has been building through SS 05, AW 05, and SS 06.
