Balenciaga F/W 07.08 Paris

Nooo!!! Why??? I come back to TFS, excited to check out the last couple Balenciaga collections, and I detest them. Not fair.

just found the info

Open-toe sandal, Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, $4,175

sorry, anybody would pay so much money for these shoes!?

Haute Couture (therefor made to measure) Massaro Shoes are half that price:innocent:

full show 480p

it's the very first show that I said "I died." breathtaking, dramatic, and super edgy.

I'm pretty sure we can all think of several young designers that should cut Nicolas a pretty sizable check for the amount of "inspiration" they've taken from this collection.

Yeah. It's not one of my favourite Balenciaga collections by Nicolas but when I look at Proenza and Altuzarra, they generously took 'inspiration' from this collection to fashion theirs.

NG was so much more on point while at Balenciaga (up to a point) than now...

and it's kinda scary how relevant and fresh this still feels, 10 years after the fact.

Balenciaga by NG was really the real deal. For me it was the ultimate fashion house. Rarely fashion has produced such a refined and precise operation. From the shows to the clothes, to the stores, accessories and even perfume...Everything was perfect.
I still have some items from this collection and those clothes (thanks to the fit) really gives you power. The commercial collection and the prefall was also great.
Even their denim line was great.

I can't wait for Nicolas to leave LV and start his own thing. Yes, it will not be as great as this but it will be more in line with his aesthetic. No matter how he try, LV does not belong to one designer/aesthetic.

Good clothes never goes out of style. Nicolas is really one of the few great genius of fashion. No matter what we think of his work at LV today...His body of work is kinda exceptional. And to inspire not only the street but other designers is not a easy thing and for that only, kudos to him.

I can't speak for the womenswear, but his menswear was horrible. It looked nice, but there all sorts of problems with fit, and having problems with delivery to retail according to schedule. The folks at Louis Boston couldn't sell it, and what little did sell eventually wound up getting returned. I remember the sales associate at the old Atelier in NYC kind of gave me a "No comment" look when I asked him if it was doing well. Classic case of adding a menswear line that nobody asked for in the first place.

^^
Their womenswear had similar problems at the beginning and a few seasons right after being bought by PPR at the time.
But i think their menswear got better overtime (in terms of fit and delivery) when Barnabe Hardy left the house.
