Givenchy HC F/W 07.08 Paris

Thanks for the vid. Givenchy is SO one of a kind. I simply adore and love all these outfits and dresses. My fav Haute Couture collection so far.

okay,if this is inspired by greek mythology then the kokosalaki comparisons are irrelevent as it's all about greek draping.
What draping? I meant this top from 02fw..

yes it looks similar, but i wasn't just directing that at you. i saw alot of comments in regards to the twisting and draping of some of the gowns and dresses. and that piece, albeit very similar, was highly inspired by greek craftsmanship...and i think if i remember correctly also greek art. so it's probably just a kinship of how their influences were derived. i've never seen anything thus far that would leave me to believe riccardo would copy anybody.

^ neither have I. Must've missed that other comment, sorry. Not insinuating he's a copycat, just pointing out similarities.

There was a lot I liked about this. The jackets and furs were to die for, some of the dresses were gorgeous and the suiting looked so perfect. The leopard stuff definitly took away from the collection imo, and should have been edited out.

Love the inspiration as it's one I've used myself, albeit with different results. I kind of wish there was more color to it though, something bold instead of safe neutrals and odd robins-egg blue.

It's going to take a lot to top last seasons couture though.

Can someone please clarify...is this Tisci's 4th or 5th season for couture at Givenchy? I know his first was fall 05....

I'm trying to say more than 'I love this' but it's just that. I do and I do and I do.

I covet these cream patent lace up boots:heart:

right about that :p
also mentions late-eighties Mugler and Montana, late Gianfranco Ferré

from style.com
PARIS, July 3, 2007 – Riccardo Tisci has taken his time to show his Givenchy couture collection on a regular runway, rather than in presentations in which his vision—and his audience's ability to focus on it—was blurred by too much high concept. Today he found the confidence to strip away the extraneous theatrics and show what he can do in plain view. As it turns out—and as the many fans of his ready-to-wear already know—his strengths are modern tailoring and ingeniously draped spiral-cut dresses. For couture, he parlayed them into a futuristic take on the goddesses and amazons of Greek mythology.

It started with peplumed hunting jackets and feathered skirts, then switched to an exploration of the animal world that included crocodile jackets (the real thing, embellished with appliquéd scales in front, but left as uncut skins in back), oversized fur bombers, and a passage of top-of-helmet to toe-of-shoe looks in dégradé animal print. The tight, overlaced pants and corseted tops had a fierceness vaguely reminiscent of late-eighties Mugler and Montana, or even the late Gianfranco Ferré. That earlier era is gaining fascination for designers of Tisci's age, although he has a softer side, too. That came out in his less assertive suitings and in the highly worked draperies of sparkle-embellished white gowns that ended the show. In all? If, like most young designers, Tisci is still working to define a unique personal signature for himself, he's making progress. With him at the helm, there's a growing sense that the house of Givenchy—which wavered for such a long time before he was hired—is back on a secure footing, and for that, he deserves credit.

the whole leopard print outfit is too much for me although i like the leopard hat... i like what raquel and stam are wearing, though...

poor poor tisci, what he wouldn't give for a cupful of consistency. this show contained some of his most accomplished pieces for the couture yet it's strung together with some of this play-play design that's best kept on the drawing board -- leopard print, et al. and while i find much of this stuff really really studied and insightful, i wonder who on earth will actually buy this stuff at this price point? hopefully he translates some of these ideas into ready to wear, especially the outerwear...

for a couture collection it's all rather commercial. They'll have no problem selling this to stinking rich women. I wonder how good the sales are doing, I'm sure they've been up since Tisci took over.
