Balenciaga F/W 11.12 Paris

finally something that doesn't make women look like robots! very chic and luxurious.

Was wondering what you thought of this!

It's great that Ghesquire has finally done something relaxed, took long enough. After so many seasons of amazing but really difficult clothes this is quite nice.

Finally decent shoes. I haven't liked his shoes since 2005ish. These ones are wicked.

Thank you :P I have not shopped there for quite a few seasons. Really wanted to like them but couldn't. This, however, looks quite promising

One thing though: the dominant proportion (dropped waist) is not forgiving for anybody who are shorter and less slender than models. -the above is purely from a wearer's perspective

OK, love the patterns and textures and the clutches are, obviously, absolutely TDF. :D

Not so sure about some of the silhouettes? Although, I think they definitely improved towards the end.

I think it's somewhat funny that Cristóbal's 60's silhouettes and cocoon shapes are flowing everywhere this season, yet Nicolas comes up with a collection that has practically nothing to do with it. Not I wouldn't like to see something from his take on the heritage again, but all his recent works, and this one in particular feel just so fresh, innovative and appropriate.

Watching the show for few times (and God knows how mesmerized I am by the venue and the soundtrack) I think the collection is the most wonderful continuation of the pre-fall presentation one would imagine. I love how the aggressive pre-fall prints and radical silhouettes transformed in their more relaxed and ligher versions.

It may be playing safe but if it goes this way, I don't feel a need for revolution.

I really love this collection!

meh....
it just isn't doing it for me... it's not bad it's just blah
like the colours though

I must say after evaluating this collection carefully my initial impression of it has done a full 180. I Actually adore this collection. It has a softness, a femininity, and a lightness that is expressed through flowy fabrics and brighter colors and the prints were wonderful.

I've seen pictures again, videos, close-ups and it's still bad for me. Sorry, I can't believe that this boring, dated and unflattering collection comes from the same mind that did the Summer 2008 collection ( in which he used floral prints in a unique and modern way ) .

I feel like people will juste love it because it's Balenciaga. If this collection would have come from a newcomer, people would be less nice with their comments.

The quality of the collections at Balenciaga is seriously decreasing.
Sad..

^ I dare say there may well always be an element of that involved, but I have to say that I didn't like S/S '08, at all, personally.

In fact, I thought it was pretty horrible, TBH.

I could have happily burnt the lot and I'm certainly not of a destructive, or pyromaniacal turn of mind.

However, as it was 'very Balenciaga' (from an archival POV), I didn't feel I could complain too much; as that is exactly the sort of thing a designer of a house, that is not his own, is expected to produce.

Whereas, this collection I partially like, partially not so much...

Speaking for myself, I would never say I like something, just because it's by a certain designer, or vice versa.

Love this collection still - and I NEED this bag!

Fashionologie

I have to say that this is a relatively quiet season from Balenciaga.

I've not been moved to pen note after note on every look as oftentimes I am with Ghesqueire's work. The usual extent of excitement, inspiration, poetry isn't quite there this season.

Still excellent work nevertheless. The faux leather chunky knits are amazing - kind of surreal techno granny chic. I also enjoyed the mesh overlays - sort of high tart. I like the styling idea of taking a piece that would be outrageous if worn alone but layering it over something primly asexual. A nod to outrageous tartiness without actually going there. It's that couture meets street Nicolas does so well.

But the collection sort of meanders away. And it felt like there were less looks this season. As if the will to create had dried up a bit this time. Like a soft breeze dissipating.

as always, the video footage gives balenciaga collections a whole new meaning and dimention (quite literally).
fantastic exercice of cut, tight and loose, color and styling.

There's something medieval about the whole thing. The flow of the dresses, the leather tops, the stark standard-like quality of some of the final short dresses, and the capes. It's mesmerizing.

^^ But Ghesquiere know how to blend both. It's never good when he goes 100% futuristic for too many seasons.
Besides... what can we really call futuristic? Pierre Cardin had his own idea in the 60s of what the future would look like, and that's not what we are wearing today! :flower:

Can't wait already for the next season! Btw, resort must be around the corner, which is always a good teaser!
