In his pre-spring collection for Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière paid homage to the voluminous silhouettes and couture fabrics of house founder Cristóbal.
It was Balenciaga while nimbly straddling the masculine-feminine and urban-rustic divides. Trim leather jackets and pantsuits in men’s wear checks were softened with glossy silk blouses sprouting a ruffled collar or a bow at the waist, while balloon-sleeved utility parkas were animated with madras shirts that had thick neck ruffs. Rounding out this sophisticated and diverse collection were sleek and futuristic pantsuits in raw, jute-look silk, sculptural dresses with flaring crinoline skirts or cascading ruffles and a short guipure lace dress that evokes crochet and futuristic armor at the same time.

Those boots on Chanel are heartbeaking. The rest of the shoes look pretty good though.

TBH I'm not sure what to make of this at all. The Pierrot collars (in plaid no less) are so not the kind of thing I would have expected to see from Ghesquiere in a million years. Honestly the only thing I'm having any kind of positive reaction to at this point is the short infanta dress on Elsa and the black and gray checked trousers. The rest is just confusing.

It's certainly different from Balenciaga...I'm not particularly liking the Pierrot collars, either.

I like looks #2, 3, 4, 6 and 8. The others I'm not crazy about...and those boots on Chanel are absolutely terrible.

those skinny windowpane wool pants are quintessential balenciaga. i love how each and every idea in this collection can find its roots in one of his previous ready-to-wear collections, yet the way they styled this collection makes it look completely new.

seriously, it's almost like they got styling tips from the marc jacobs' spring presentation to remix the greatest hits by balenciaga. that grey dress with bright orange belt reminds me of watered down christopher kane just a little.

I like the collars ... but then I'm not too fond of the usual futuristic look, so I like the departure

Some looks are just too heavy... However there is a part of the collection which I really like, for example all the outfits on Elsa.

Not a fan of it all, i mean for Resort its to heavy, however that first dress is lovely.

ps:And the shoes i like.

I like a lot of the clothes but it doesn't seem like a very cohesive collection.

it's a nice collection but i agree that it's not very cohesive

I think Nicolas Ghesquiere is trying to hard to not do the stuff that was so iconic. Maybe he is having trouble with internal feelings of disrespect for christobal, but I think how he translated the house's history into the future with the collecitons from Spring 2006 up until spring 2009 were the best. Something is going on over there that is messing what we have come to know and love.

My thoughts exactly and couldn't of said it better.

Well, I like this better than F/W 09. That was Nicolas's worst collection in my opinion. Aside from the heinous shoes Chanel is modeling, everything else is decent. However, if someone told me one year ago that I would be describing Balenciaga as "decent", I would have had them submitted for psychological evaluation.

Hm.. I'm not impressed really.. I do like some looks (like #6) and the black shoes
