Balmain S/S 2022 by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

I always thought M&M was a good match with Balmain... But I didn't like this beginning, I hope there are better things on the way!

Please tell me I’m going mad, because I enjoy the second shot for some reason I can’t explain. The first one is an abomination.

Not impressed, quite underwhelming actually. The previous campaign with Cindy and Claudia is stronger and more memorable. At least with the previous campaign she still put in the work, here she just "I'm fierce, I'm Naomi", it's getting boring now.

Love Lara’s shots. It’s so cold and industrial, I dig it. Reminds me of some of their editorials with her back in the past decade.

I don’t know what the hell is going on with M&M these days.
Seeing the result, I’d have hired Juergen.

Never liked this side of Mert & Marcus, but it is a massive improvement from Balmain's last campaign. He tends to be very inconsistent with campaigns, I remember some truly glorious campaigns around 2015/16 and then there's a big dry spell, now this... not the best outcome, but you have good photographers and a great cast so far. Wish Lara didn't appear so washed out. Naomi's legs are the true stars of this campaign!

All things considered, this should've been better.

^^^ Everything should be better: M&M doing their faux-raw thing isn’t their best look. And Naomi’s waxy face has seen better days. But just seeing her fit, womanly musculature— and Lara’s mighty Aphrodites bod back in full force, and all wrapped in such designs that all about a woman’s body, is all good enough. And all presented in classic Karl’s Chanel campaign layout, to boot. I’ll take it.

who said yes to Lara’s first shot??? and I LOVE Lara Stone!!!

the shots of Naomi are good but that bag placement on the first shot was a choice.

it all feels disconnected.

What a dissappointed campaign, Naomi looks cringle & Lara as a zombie. :ninja:

Very weird cropping and some very unflattering lighting. It’s not terrible but you do expect more (much more…) with those photographers and that cast.

Naomi's shots are the best and that's only because they look like Inez and Vinoodh. The others are very generic. I've seen lookbooks that have more effort put into them. Also, Mariacarla was not a good casting choice for this. I typically associate her with Givenchy when she's styled like this and that is all I can think of when I see her shots. If this was their attempt to elevate the image of the brand, it flopped.
