Blackheads

i tried to do that on my own. i can't.

i'd rather lie back at a facialist, have her steam my face then remove that junk.

What do you mean? The less tallow the pores produce, the less they clog. Blackheads = clogges pores. The tallow oxidizes, hence the black part.

If the pores produce less tallow, then you don't get blackheads. Easy and simple. The more you extract, the more they produce. It's okay to do it every two weeks or so if you absolutely must, but doing it every day irritates the skin and only makes them produce more. Just like over-cleansing your skin makes it more greasy.

how do you make them produce less tallow?

I think it's a little too soon to tell. What she did was pierce the outer layer of my skin where blackheads were present to help push them out. You could kind of feel a really small prick when she did it and then she squeezed it out. I can't imagine every doing that to myself... I think I'll just have to go to her to do it.

that sounds harsh! I'd never dare trying that!

For me, it helped switching to a richer moisturizer, Decleor Essential Balm. And I started using an oil cleanser (Precleanse from Dermalogica).

It's another way of extracting, other than a comedone extractor, you can use a lancet. It is a small needle that is only pressed into the area you are extracting. It's not done for blackheads, but pustules (whiteheads where pus has formed) and you never actually pierce the skin but the top layer (if you've been trained correctly in using them) where the pustule has formed a raised bump above the skin's surface.

I dont know the protocol in other countries but you can probably find them somewhere, but I buy them from a medical supply.

The more you remove blackheads, the more goo will the pores produce. Hence the return of the blackheads. It's all about getting the pores to produce less goo. Less goo = less blackheads

well how do you get the pores to produce less goo?

As you age your skin produces less sebum but there's no product that can penetrate the skin and remain in the basal layer (very bottom layer of your skin) forever. So it's just a matter of cleansing your face well (not always twice a day...you dont need to cleanse in the morning...just water, balance/tone, and serums and creams) and when you see blackheads removing them. It's just maintenance.

How many times a week is it advisably to steam your face?

thanks for the tip! every time I try to buy richer moisturizer the sellers tell me not to, dunno why. maybe my skin looks greasy after the moisturizer I put on it, but it's actually very dry!

Just let it sink in... I think my skin was irritated, hence the blackheads. I still have some left, very few though. Also cleansing with oil, it's brilliant! It removes dirt and makeup, you don't have to cleanse twice. And once you get used to the massage-part, you'll be able to do it at 4 in the morning when you're drunk :shifty:

Precleanse

The professional's deep cleaning weapon! Acheive ultra-clean and healthy skin with a double cleaning regime that begins with precleanse. This plant-based cleansing oil, fortified with olive and kukui oils, thoughrougly melts excess layers of oil, sunscreen, make up, environmental pollutants that build up during the day.

On contact with water it becomes a milky emulsion, easily washed away, carrying all the grime with it. Contains no artificial colour or fragrance.

There's no need for a second cleanser, really.

I can't see why not, really... It's very very gentle, I don't think there's anything harsh in it. I have sensitive eyes, and I use it as a makeup remover for waterproof mascara. Have never had a problem with irritated eyes with Precleanse...where as when I tried a Clinique eye cream, the swelling was so bad that I couldn't open my eyes and had to go to the doctor

Actually the professional protocol for Dermalogica is to use the PreCleanse, then another of their cleansers on top for removal of makeup and then another cleanse with any of their cleansers because one cleansing doesnt get all the makeup off. I did a course with IDI (International Dermal Institute) and that was how they started every one of their facials. I usually skipped the second cleanse when practicing on clients.

I know you're supposed to cleanse with another cleanser afterwards, but my face feels and looks like a dried-out piece of wood when I do that  I get everything off with Precleanse, really. Those Dermalogica-folks sure are obsessed with cleansing

ive never bothered with cleaning oil.

i received some japanese ones as gifts, but i had to immediately give them away to a japanese friend as they came with no directions.

the multi-step process seems to complicated to me.

the body shop tea tree oil cleanser isnt bad though.
