Burberry Prorsum S/S 06 Milan

im in love! it looks nice...doesn't really look too summery just with the long jackets and sleeves and all but i really like it. cant wait to see more

this is like an explosion of condiments.....
mustard and soy sauce and creamy mayo and hummus....
burberry goes dinner-time.....

....

i'm in a strange place with this collection....
there isnt a single outfit i really like.....
but i cant seem to hate it...

i think its well put together....
there is a central 'look'.....its a strong collection, in that sense....
its easily followed and it seems to flow....it makes sense....

its kind of british with a twist....

i dont really like it.....but i dont hate it at all....
it somehow just looks WELL DONE....without it being anything more or less than that....

so why not.....

Burberry Prorsum: Christopher Bailey, bright young light of Milan and Burberry, always has had a thing for London's bright young things, those "It" girls of the ultracool variety. This season, however, he's left his best girl home on Saturday night.

Princess Margaret and an imaginary host of Sixties-era English debutantes inspired Bailey's charming new mood, one that reined in last season's bohemian ways with a tidier attitude and a lot less fabric. But in the transition, his girl didn't lose a thing, since her new haute-bourgeois look was so square it was hip.

Opening with a navy cape coat shining with giant brass buttons, Bailey went on to celebrate the good girl with proper sweaters over stiff taffeta skirts and high-waisted dresses with ribbon belts. Satin coats swung wide and demure, while taffeta trenches came tied up in bows.

He moved in a pared-down and polished new direction. And if the show was a bit repetitive, well, some things bear repeating.

I love seeing these "fall"-ish colors amidst all the spring colors. Obviously you couldn't make your whole wardrobe around these shades, but you can definately incorporate them into your wardrobe...

And seeing the detail shots, I am liking it even better.

Burberry SS06 at times is a little Marni-esque and a little Prada-inspired, but it is one of my favorites in Milan nevertheless. Christopher Bailey walks a fine line between preppy and sophisticated, and while his previous winter collections tended towards bohemian (which I disliked), it's nice to see him steer the brand back to cleaner and more structured lines. The scarf and the belt are all the layering that I need. The reinterpretation of princessy blouse and egg-shaped skirts is very clever. Perhaps not loud enough to be a critical darling for Milan (but who could be the breakout of Milan fashion week this year, with Gucci and Prada scraping the bottom of the barrell respectively), but I think it will do well commercially. A lot of the looks are easily translatable.

i wasnt too inpressed by my first impression of this collection but i had seen it mentioned in a couple of other threads and thought i might take another look... and i like what i see!! i like the colours, i still agree it is a tad repedative but i dont know ...its grown on me

I'm amazed with this collection. It's made up of things I admire: cardigans, satin/silk, double breasted jackets, mod-shaped dresses and earthy-tones. Golds, greens, yellows, camels, bronzes,...I think Burberry Prorsum used my room's color palette.
