Céline S/S 2014 Paris

Even though my expectations for this collection were lowered because of how odd this season has been, I still expected great things from Phoebe. This collections was not that at all. Though there were some exceptional pieces, there were more ugly ones, and the styling was rather atrocious. The accessoroes and makeup did not help at all.
I am intrigued as to what a non-minimalist Céline will look like, but it is not off to a good start.

Other than some of the really garish prints and polo stripes, I actually kinda like this. ^_^ It's good that she's taking a risk and trying something new... That famous Samuel Beckett quote comes to mind: "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better." Maybe this is failing better?

Love it! And I still see it as minimal really, and a continuation of her aesthetic

New? Different? Not at all, unless the person who says that started seeing shows last season (but that doesn't make it new either). In fact, it's rather basic stuff. Basic... and ugly. Not even attractive or well-thought (something I expect from Phoebe).

Hmmm... is there any need for such a comment? :ermm: (that's ad hominem in my view)

Surely people are entitled to their opinions. Speaking personally, I've been watching shows for a l-o-n-g time, and yeah, I think this is new and different territory for her. There are elements of her regular fit and cuts in some looks more than others, but it's also obvious to my eye (and apparently others here) that she is branching out of her comfort zone with textures and prints - and a different sort of volume.

I meant new for fashion in general, not for Céline as a brand. If she kept doing always the same and nothing new for the brand what would be the point? Well, we can ask Raf Simons I guess.

Actually, I think a lot of designers do that don't they? Stick to doing more-or-less versions of the same aesthetic? Sometimes that's a good strategy if it works really well, and if they know enough to provide some change within the repetition. But yeah, it can get pretty stale too. And I guess that's why I appreciate her willingness to take a risk here, and even fail if that's the case. Maybe it's better to fail spectacularly sometimes rather than always being safe? Food (fashion?) for thought... :flower:

Yes, but this is more-or-less in the same vein of her previous work. It feels very Céline, it's just that she added some color... She has experimented with texture before, with pleats, with big coats, with clean cuts, boxy shoulders...

And yes, that's style after all: repetition. But in each collection good designers (aside from Alaïa:mrgreen:) add something new... If not, everything gets stale (ask Tisci or Alber:mrgreen:). Although even them add new things.

I like what she is doing here, otherwise it would be stale like what Raf is doing at Dior. I agree the clothes are a bit garish, but her eulogy to minimalism is well executed.

It is minimalism season, and I thought 3 Paris minimalists would be like fish in water (I'm talking about Stella, Chloe & Celine). Anyway, Phoebe choosed different direction, and for me it's such a let down. I realy like some of looks, they looks quite interesting, but overall it a mess. It's like Prada - too much ideas and details in one collection. I think those metalic cutouts would look perfect on really structured minimal clothes.

Oh I love this. I love that it is so not what anyone expect from her. I love the unapologetic eccentricity. The colours, the texture, the shapes. I just love it all.

My god what an epic collection! So much to take in, and love here, if anyone is willing to post detail shots, would be appreciated.

And thanks so much fro NOT posting thumbnails!

^agreed, i love the boldness in the colours & prints and the all the details she added:heart:

A truly gorgeous collection, to me it just proves how Phoebe has really been defining fashion's zeitgeist in recent seasons.

Love the colours and how the print strokes on the shirts and dresses are mirrored in the eyebrows/make up, but the final black pieces were my favourite of the collection!

I felt quite a British undercurrent in this collection, a certain joie de vivre and I can see the pieces here really influencing real life dressing for next Spring Summer.

After seeing this "collection" I am shocked. In a bad way. Loved former Céline collections...but horrible loud prints doesn´t mean creative collection.

Raf Simon´s latest Dior collections+worst from Comme des Garçons+80s discarded prints= this hell of a mess!!!

Gorgeous collection! Loving the tribal luxury look so much.

Definitely my favourite collection...I seriously don't even get the negativity. This is just all too awesome!

YOU GUYS

Does LVMH need another KENZO in the group?
Celine by Phoebe, like Dior by Raf, is always overhyped and overrated.
I have no idea how the LVMH Fashion director selects designer for brands, in aesthetic way, not commercial.
