Caring for Curls: Curly Hair Care

wowee, curly hair is definitely a lot of work. I have fine, curly hair but theres lots of it so its hard to always make it look nice when it drys naturally. Ive found that if I first use volumising spray (currently using kerastase volumactive and had no complaints) and then mix a tiny bit of mousse and leave in conditioner together and scrunch through hair I get beautiful and frizz-free curls and it doesn't weigh it down. I also make sure that I only put the mousse and leave in conditioner through the mid-lengths to the ends otherwise it tends to get flat on top which doesn't look so hot!

I use to be a ceramic-straightner addict and found that it destroyed my hair so much. It took me months of protein, moisturizing treatments and many bad hair days to get my curls back and my hair looking healthy. So just of word of warning for those who straighten- embrace those beautiful curls, a million girls would love to have them and even through the grass may seem greener on the otherside, most of the time the best things are what you already have!

Has anyone tried the Tresemme Touchable Curling Creme, it looks good but I can't seem to find it.

Have any of you tried the products from Ouidad?

I've thought about trying out some of their products, but I haven't really got round to it yet + shipping to Europe will most likely be somewhat expensive, so I'll probably need to buy from eBay.

At the moment I use a shampoo from *** and a conditioner from Philosophy. I'm not very impressed with any of these two products though.

I need to shampoo less often, but if I don't shampoo my hair, or at least get my hair wet every day I won't be able to wear it down.

adorefaith - I never use actual hair products such as gel or mousse, because they weigh my curls down. Instead I use a hair oil or serum when my hair is wet followed by this creme.

correct me if i am wrong but isn't nivea cream a body lotion (a very moisturizing lotion)??? Do u apply it to ur hair???Does it give u nice curls???

sorry about all the questions but i am really surprised with the nivea creme thing

Yes it's just the body cream I use for my hair. I was very sceptic myself at first, but I thought I'd give it a try and it worked surprisingly well on my curls. It keeps my hair from getting too dry and frizzy.

I love this site, great reviews of products for curlies :flower:

I use the Fredric Fekkai Moisturizing Shea Butter Series.. Shampoo,Conditioner, Hair Mask! The whole works!!

its pretty pricey but its worth it!

freda's frizz ease is a must.

i usually do a roller set (under the hard-bonnet hair-dryer etc.) every week or so (yes, even though i have curly hair...) and i'm good to go.

does the nivea creme really work?! i must give that a try. do use it before blow-drying....or styling? how?

It works for my curls and I think it's better than styling products like gel, that might make the curls a bit "stiff".

When my hair is wet I use a serum or hair oil before applying the creme. I rarely blow-dry my hair though.

i just bought this garnier fructis spray gel.
i like it a lot. it makes my hair smell great.
i usualy put in a mousse and then spray gel both by paul mitchell and then i put this in and then hairspray by paul mitchell and my hair smelled amazing and looked great.

Curly Hair

Being someone with naturally curly hair, I know how much of a pain it can be. The best thing I did for my hair was getting it cut shorter and layered over a year ago. I've also found the right products to use with my hair.

Shampoo: I use Aussie moist shampoo, but I've tried Redken shampoo for curly hair and found it very effective. The new John Fried roots collection also worked very well for me. Aussie is just more affordable.

Conditioner: I use Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine conditioner which seems to work just as well as their shampoo specifically for curly hair.

Leave-in conditioner: I use Sunsilk anti-poof leave-in conditioner and also Sunsilk leave-in conditioner for curly hair (the green bottle).

Anti-humidity spray: I use Samy anti-humidity spray, but I don't think it actually makes that much of a difference.

What do you use for your curly hair? How do you make it less frizzy and more manageable?

since my hair is so short when its curly because my curls are so tight, i straighten over them quickly, to make my hair look longer, less frizzy, and more wavy. i dont really use any products except heat kerratese thermal protecter.

I've finally found a haircare routine I'm happy with for my curly hair!

I use Redken Fresh Curls shampoo and conditioner and their Ringlet 07 whenever I wash my hair. And then use either Redken Fresh Curls anti-frizz shiner or Bumble & Bumble surf spray when needed in between washes.

I do need to find a good intensive conditioner if anyone has any recommendations? :flower:

I use loreal kids shampoo because i find it controls my hair well, then herbal essences conditioner. Then Bumble and Bumble curl conscious when its wet. This routine really works for me.

Is anyone familiar with Audrey Tautou's wavy/curly short hair style? I have the same type of hair & am going to cut my hair in that style soon. Im just wondering what do I put in it when styling (products) & how would I style (air dry or hair dryer)? Its been along time since Ive had short hair & I dont use hair products now except for anti frizz products occasionally but it really looks like she has something in her hair & I have no clue what lol.
Thanks.

good to know.

i have wavy hair. i currently use herbal essences twisted whatever shampoo for curly hair and alternate conditioners - john frieda luminous glaze conditioner, fekkai conditioner and garnier nutrisse conditioner.

after washing, i hit the bottom half with kiehl's silk groom and twist it into a chignon. i sleep on it like this and get pretty amazing waves/fullness.

What's a good shampoo for curly hair?
I have curly hair and I'm willing to try just about any shampoo except Pantene (because of its supposed wax content).
I would love to try Fekkai but it's way too expensive.
