Chanel Handbags S/S 2020 : Marine Vacth, Margaret Qualley & Taylor Russell by Steven Meisel

Gucci, Hermès, Tom Ford (& Balmain)
I would love to see what he can do with Hermès given the fabulous campaign Avedon did for them.

But yes, Meisel’s catalogue is quite unmatched.

It’s crazy to think that he has worked for almost every important brands in Italy for example.
The influence he had on the new generation almost secure him another decade of success.

True! My bad. I can't believe these brands are missing out on him, he is definitely not getting younger, and to think the iconic imagery they could've created.
And not only in Italy, in the whole world!
His influence is undeniable, I would say on par with someone even like Anna or Carine themselves – the amount of legendary models he discovered, taught, and established for us is undisputed. Not even mentioning all the classic Franca stuff and past eds.

Love the cast, cute styling but overall is boring sorry

It took me a while to think about what brands he hasn't worked for...

How about Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani and Burberry? I guess Fendi as well just like Chanel when Karl's in the reign.

Well, must admit Taylor's shot is very catalogue, but the others are great and something new for Chanel. It's been years since they've done effortless glamour. Maybe the campaign for the Cuba collection? But even then there was always this element of amateur to Karl's campaigns for me. Never could warm to them.

^^^ Taylor’s is actually the best of the lot (reminds me of the work I’d do for local generic consumer-range brands, with the saturated color-correction against a white seamless…). The others look like snaps of early-2010 bloggers posing with their first Chanel bag purchase. I’m failing to see the faintest whiff of glamour in any of those shots, Benn. Budget-range aesthetic? Oh definitely.

But it's Meisel, lol!
Also, you do have odd tastes.

^^^ I wouldn't care if God himself shot this campaign. It's pedestrian.

I can see a 15yo girl from the mid-West seeing this campaign and relating to it; getting excited cuz she can wear her American Eagle jeans and Coach Outlet capped-toe ballerinas and dream of getting a Chanel bag for her bday… That’s the “glamour" for a 15yo girl growing up in a conservative region.

Then again, as you say, I’m odd...

My reaction when I read it was shot by Meisel: :buzz:

My reaction when I saw the actual images: :ermm::huh::neutral:

Disappointing and bland.

I knew he was going to take Karl's place shooting the campaigns. Something really good under covid times.

The campaign is actually very reminiscent of the one Vanessa did for the Cambon line when she got back officially with Chanel...
Maybe this one lacks the fan or maybe Vanessa is a better « model »...
