Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai

the only problem i see with marrakesh is it's YSL's city, no?
of course russia had also been a prior saint laurent reference and that didn't stop karl last year. but it seems like the bond with morocco is stronger in this case.
come on! come on!! paris-barcelona!!! it's the OBVIOUS next step! B)

(:blush::innocent:)

before you ask: the connection could be Salvador Dalí, coco's friend.
or... zaha hadid? karl's friend who is doing some cool project now in the city.
or... whatever! come karl! come!!

he could easily do a collection in barcelona....complete with torreadors and the like. it'd be a spectacle. i suspect the spanish economy would have to recover a bit first, no? seriously, there exist strong business reasons for him to travel to these places, not just aesthetics. whether it's miami or moscow, he's traveling to places where he knows he can cash in with existing clientel.

i actually really love those sandals the girls are wearing. they're strappy, look light and slightly filigrane.

Can I ask how the Chanel staff got all models there(shanghai?)I mean,I heard that its not easy to get the visa to China..just like Tanya once got stuck by the visa to NYC...

^ Yes, I am sure that being they put a Zillion Dollars into the new store and the city on the Fashion Map with the show, any 'consideration' necessary was no problem... B)

its looked like abbey lee almost fell opening the show in the runway video i seen. she crazy! haha tryna be cute.

^ I saw that too! She handled it well...and did you see how behind the rhythm Baptiste was at the end- must have been 15 or 20 seconds delay in his coming out, and he only went part of the way down the runway... B)

the film is just cringe-worthy.. who wrote that? of course karl did.... the lines are just dreadful and the acting, no comment..

Is this dress, worn by Princess Caroline of Monaco, from the Chanel Pre Fall 2010? Photo souce, wire image.

I thought this collection was beautiful. I honestly don't understand why some people see this as poor or kitsch.

What I liked about this collection is that it really reflected some of China's historical outfits and visual arts (pottery/jewelry/etc) but deconstructed it in a way that was contemporary (and almost futuristic, given the dark outfits placed against a dark background with illuminated neon lights from the port city)...

The Chinese culture has a very strong aesthetic, so I thought it was very interesting seeing a German designer who works for a dominate French fashion house doing his interpretation of Chinese (and in a broader context, East Asian) culture and fashion.

Though Karl did do a collection for Tokyo/Japan, it played off their Gothic Lolita look (which was a Japanese rendition of European/Victorian wear). But for Chanel-Shanghai, I liked the fact that Karl referenced the entire culture as inspiration over a trend. It was a strong political move on Karl's part, in the sense that China seems to be thriving despite this recession.

The movie segment of the presentation wasn't very strong. Visually, everything was there...but story wise....horrible. That's my only negative comment about the show.
