Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai

As they say, the brain is the sexiest organ......but OTOH, the men they snagged are not exactly "prizes", are they? Think Prince Charles, the Stud:woot: and Camilla Parker Bowles...:D

Well, Boy Chapel and the Duke of Westminster were huge prizes in their day (Westminster was the richest man in England), and the Prince of Wales was probably the most pursued and prized bachelor in history! So....not bad, especially if you add in Coco's various famous lovers and friends who were very big celebs in their day...and heaven knows the competition was fierce for these men! ;)

Not sure what I think. Visually, it's very effective. Is there anything more beautiful that bright red, glowing through the deepest dark

^ So true. I am looking forward to those great studio HQs on the Chanel website where you can see all the details...B)

Let's see, about how this is all marketing driven...Yup!! B);)

Less than 48 hours after opening, the boutique had sold out of the limited-edition red handbags that Lagerfeld had created for Shanghai. The price was 28,800 yuan – about £3,000 – in a city where the average monthly wage is 2,000 yuan; but money seems to be no object to the girls who flit around the boutique, trying on shoes and jewellery with the practised alacrity of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. Glossy haired and immaculately manicured, they flash top-of-the-range mobile phones and diamond rings; and most of them are carrying Chanel handbags from recent collections, while their mothers wear Chanel tweed jackets, and smile indulgently, enthroned on Louis XV armchairs.

That's really a satire! Shanghai's now becoming the paradise of the rich folks, forget abt the average 2000 yuan waged ppl they are almost invisible under the halo of the city.

My final thoughts on the collection; the simpler pieces were the best from the show. The other looks with the overly extravagant embroidering and detail work looked a little kitsch.

I wonder why Chanel clothes look better when it's simpler. :innocent:
Boy are you spot on, at least imo.

Karl's designs for Chanel either scream or they whisper, there's no in between. And when they scream it can be downright deafening. :ninja:

I usually wind up liking his simpler pieces better too, because when it comes down to it he's a better designer when he's not trying to show off Chanel's craft. When he starts in with the gilt, jewels, beads, sequins, feathers, fringes, arm warmers, hats, jewelry...it's just too much.

I think Karl sometimes forget that Chanel was all about simplicity and utility with her designs and style in general. Her style of dressmaking was simply to perfect every single clothing without having the extra froo like Schiaparelli, Poiret, and Doucet. Those designers relied on the spectacle of over abundant embroidery of jewels, feathers, and detail work, but the final outcome was a lower quality product that didn't last through the ever changing trends of the century.

LOL

Dubai's going bankrupt, while Shanghai is still going strong

maybe Lebanon, it's such a party city....

i think if they'd do a middle east inspired one, name wise, Istanbul would be good. Baghdad would sound the most romantic (all those arabic fairytales....) but with the current situation, impossible.

Eypt would be nice too!

as for this collection, i'll wait for the official pics to surface, either style or via Chanel.

i like the Camelia quilting...

This would really make it an African inspired show. Would be cool!

i've thought the same. someone joked chanel paris-cairo,, but karl could easily pull off a paris-marrakesh: coco chanel, after all, did travel there.

the only problem i see with marrakesh is it's YSL's city, no?
of course russia had also been a prior saint laurent reference and that didn't stop karl last year. but it seems like the bond with morocco is stronger in this case.
come on! come on!! paris-barcelona!!! it's the OBVIOUS next step! B)

(:blush::innocent:)

before you ask: the connection could be Salvador Dalí, coco's friend.
or... zaha hadid? karl's friend who is doing some cool project now in the city.
or... whatever! come karl! come!!

^ I'm holding out for Paris/Jersey City: The Sopranos Collection! Lots of strap T Shirts and tank tops... B)

Thanks for the pictures from Chanel, but I'm disappointed- I was hoping for more detail with a lighter background- you can't see a lot of the details- which is what the Pre Fall Collections are all about! :(

^you can't barely see anything at all. Thank God some of the outfit were neon-colored otherwise there would not be much to comment on.
