Galliano's early stuff is really spectacular, all the ethnic inspired pieces are really powerful.

I posted this in the Dior HC S/S 00 thread, but I thought I'd post it here too:

I just found this postcard of Dress no.39 from ss 00, which is advertising an exhibition entitled "Remaking Fashion" at the National Gallery of Victoria (Melb, Australia, 26 Sep 08 - 19 Apr 09).

Examine the process of clothing construction in contemporary fashion and see how designers such as Rei Kawakubo at Comme des Garcons, Helmut Lang, Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano for Christian Dior have reinterpreted previously hidden structural elements as design features.

This is the look on the runway:

rox_yr_sox, thanks for the great images. That's one of my absolute favorite pieces by John (though that's a long list.)

Would you please provide the original website that they came from, as per tfs policy? Thank you in advance.

Th first image is just a scan of a postcard, the second from ngv.vic.gov.au and the last 2 are from corbis.

Is it okay to post entire collections? Because if so, then I've got a lot to contribute to this thread. :shifty:

^ Of course it is! I think all of the Galliano fans would definitely appreciate it.

Just try to keep it to 6-8 images per post, or if you want to post more than that at a time, you could upload them onto tfs. :D

Just be aware we have a thread for the S/S 97 HC collection with the full show images posted here and the full S/S 98 HC collection posted here.

that dress is amazing, one of my favourites
thanks for posting

How much does that huge Dior retrospective book, which was published a year ago, dwell on early Galliano? Anyone here have the book?

The book has a great Galliano section (obviously)...but I would say that it mostly focuses on the early-mid 2000's period. Of course there are some 90's couture pieces (the peacock gown from the Mata Hari collection, two pieces from the Pocahontas collection, the Masai gown, etc), but it's mostly 2000's work.

^Thanks for information. I hope someone will some day publish a book focusing on Galliano of 80s-90s.

^ There is a Galliano book that was published in 97 or 98 that covered his career prior to the time he was at Dior. I'm pretty sure it's out of print, but I've seen used copies being sold on Amazon.com.

I'm not sure what that book is like, though.
