Dakota Fanning

I don't think she needs to conform to the norm because she doesn't fall under the norm of your everyday 15 year old. Just my opinion though. Anyway, those purple shoes are pretty ugly.

I don't agree with the - 'this is what teens nowadays do!' argument. Just because they do it, doesn't make it right. Heels are associated with women's femininity and sexuality, and so seeing girls who are 13-16 (yeah, I went up to 16 - deal with it!) wearing 5" heels while running errands is out of the norm. I mean, 3" fine, whatever, but she is wearing some major inches. It just seems like she's buying into some sort of hollywood stereotype of what 'hollywood girls' dress like ie Lauren Conrad, etc. However, I hope she is just experimenting, 'cuz those shoes be ugly.

 I don't think anyone is really using it as an argument, just as an example of the ever changing style/protocol for teens these days. It isn't either right nor wrong, it all depends on your perspective. As far as an age range for wearing heels, I say that it's left up to the parents and the teen/girl/whatever. Each person matures faster, or grows up in a society/household that differs. I don't think she's buying into any stereotype, she wearing what she finds cool, and for that I give her kudos. I hate that people try to put an age limit on self expression, like I've said before she isn't wearing anything highly inappropriate/showing off unnecessary skin. This is all simply my opinion though, and as someone who's older than Dakota I see no problem with her shoes, she's at that age that you are feeling things out. The major problems I have with the shoes isn't the height, it's how ugly they are

sorry if I was unclear - I wasn't attacking anyone in this thread, jsut saying that it's an argument often used to defend teenagers actions. I agree it should be left up to the individual, but the rest of the way she dresses doesn't suggest a particular affinity for cutting edge fashion to be honest. Seems pretty straightforward. And while pretty and nice, it doesn't come across as someone simply experimenting with heels. Towering heels have been and still are a major trend. It's not like she came upon it herself. I would expect she would be very influenced by the likes of Lauren and Nicole in jeans and heels. And I think there is a rush and a pressure (like all of us teen girls felt at the time) to act older than you are. I'm older than she is and if I saw a girl her age wearing 5" heels to 7-Eleven or at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf I would think - who are you trying to impress? How does this make sense for what you are doing? Likewise, I think it's silly that people wear 5" loubs to get groceries but that's another thread.

I agree it's not cutting edge, but it's her's for the moment and it will probably evolve. We are so use seeing her as this little girl, that some may forget that she is growing up, and maybe wants to feel/ is more grown up. My thing is that she lives in Hollywood ( and you and others may not agree with this) but it's a completely different world. She isn't running errands in these pics, she's going to a studio or rehearsals. She's in an environment where things are *** backwards a lot of the time  I feel that people are just blowing the heels out of proportion *shrugs*

I really like what she is wearing here, I think it seems a little more what a regular girl my age would wear!

she's so cute, at lease we have someone in the twilight series with a fashion sense, a 15 @ that as well.

I agree, on both the counts of "just because everyone is doing it, doesn't make it right", and the fact those are some seriously stacked heels she's been sporting, and seem a bit age inappropriate...But, I will say, considering the things that many other 15 year-olds I know are experimenting with (such as drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc...) high heels aren't all that bad. I'd rather her have a habit of wearing high heels than a habit for doing drugs or something similar. ;)

She's wearing Docs again. Love it. Oh, and I watched Coraline today, she was great in the film. :)

and i do not understand why people make such a big deal about wearing heels. Shes a girl, she can wear what she wants.
Why does everyone have to make these rules? Its not like shes 5.
She wants to wear them, they look good, she can wear them.
Whether or not they are relevant to a "mature" woman's sensuality or whatever is actually irrelevant because those are lame stereotypes. It angers me when people pick apart something to silly. Like calm down people, shes not in a bra, mini skirt and 7" heels? If this is what you think is trashy than woah.

^ No one said they are trashy it's just that fact that these young starlets feel the need to walk around in 4 inch heels for simple errands such as getting gas or going to the grocery store. I just find it bizarre and I've never seen kids wear heels around here and I understand that young kids are dressing way more mature than 20 year olds.

i'm shocked about the high heels talk. why is everyone being so uptight about it? it's not like she is wearing a tank top showing her belly button. does "high hells = immoral" in america and europe? here in Brasil, when i was a teen i got nothing but compliments when i wore my high heels. but i wouldn't wear them on the streets because my feet hurts (i have very small and skinny feet so no shoes fits me properly until today) but i would wear them everytime i got to go to some friend's party and sucked up the pain:lol:

I didnt know that going to run errands didnt give you the right to look and feel fabulous. Ill keep in mind next time to wear sweat pants, flats and an old t shirt.
There are no rules. i dont get the hate.

This argument is ridiculous ( i have no clue why im still responding to this) and if you do look back in the pages you'll notice people have said its trashy in reflection, implied statements.

Dakota is a fierce teen!!

I don't think anyone is really arguing. I just think that they're remarking it is unusual to see someone so young wearing heels a lot more than some adult actresses. Honestly, I have no idea how she does it. They looks awfully painful.

i guess its for the sake of fashion. personally i cannot stand wearing heels for longer than an hour but all the power to those who can stick it out!

i used to wear heels when i went grocery shopping with my mum when i was 14/15

^ Well she wasn't walking very long. It's like 15 steps from the car to the studio where she probably sat down in a chair lol. I think that's why celebrities are always wearing fabulous heels. They walk a bit, get driven, walk a bit more, sit down. Then they walk back to their car and go home. It's not like they have to take the train or stand on their feet all day.
