make sure you see any maya deren film when you get the chance! she was really exceptional. and there was a great documentary about her a few years ago called "in the mirror of maya deren".

I will if I come across any!

Maria Callas. So pretty and elegant...what a diva!

she was unbelievable! did you see 2046 yet (the new wong kar wei movie)?
i did not love it as much as i did in the mood for love but it is definitely a mind blowing film...costumes beautiful as ever...breathtaking scenes and THE MUSIC...you will hear maria callas and peer raben who wrote lili marleen for fassbinder gave some of his old work to be rearranged! (he felt too old and sick to create something new).

probably the most oddly elegant person ever...but i love her:
v.w.

I think she's beautiful in a very quiet way.
Also read in an article that she was suspected to be anorexic as was Sylvia Plath? That would explain a lot.

yes, i read a biography by one of her nephews and he was also saying that she had phases in which she thought food/eating were disgusting....

I cannot wait to see this film at the weekend. I expected that it wouldn't match, In the Mood for Love, but I know it, and the costumes, will be wonderful all the same.

I definitely agree with Maria Callas as a choice. Went to the exhibition of all her Swarovski jewels in Monte Carlo during the summer. http://www.swarovski.com/index/0,2768,language%3Den%26contentId%3D2744%26channel%3D50%26subChannel0%3D64,00.html

i just found another picture of renée ciboure

She's very difficult to find photos of online, but I've liked everything I've ever seen of Maeve Brennan, an author (and columnist for the New Yorker throughout the 50's, and I think 60's).

That's a coincidence alright. :woot:
And any pictures would, of course, be welcome...

I've read some articles on her... and then some books.

(Hope reminds me of Emmanuelle Beart in that second picture. Very nice, and ethereal, from what I see. )

I read an interesting article about her last summer in the NY Times? I meant to follow up and find out more about her, but forgot. She was very chic! Have you read this book about her?
