Nice photos strawbutterb + anna karina!!! :flower:

Lisa St Aubin de Teran. She often wears Victorian period clothes...unfortunatley I can't find any photos of her in them!

strawbutterb, sorry for being ignorant, but who is yayoi kusama? i love the pictures you posted of her!

i really want to read the maeve brennan biography...god there is so much to read!

lisa st aubin de teran:heart:, there used to be a section in german vogue where one woman told about her style biography with pictures from every decade or so...she was in there once, too.
unfortunately they canceled this section for some stupid hit list or hot buys...whatever...

Ahh, if only I could have seen that! There used to be a few photos of her on the web, but no more. If you ever come across any photos of her please post them!! :flower:

Avant-garde Sculptor, painter and novelist.

Started to paint using polka dots and nets as motifs at around age ten ,and created fantastic paintings in watercolors, pastels and oils.

Kusama participates in various activities in other than art, such as photographic collaboration with photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, an appearance in the film “Topaz” written and directed by writer Ryu Murakami, and collaboration with musician Peter Gabriel and fashion designer Issey Miyake.

o yes, now i know where i had heard of her before!
thanks for the link:heart:

Four of my favorites who are connected...in a way.

Natascha McElhone. Not for her personal style, but for her beauty. I find her face captivating.

Also, she played one of my style icons in the film Surviving Picasso...

Françoise Gilot! Not a fan of her artwork, but a huge fan of her style and beauty.

Her rival Dora Maar. Love her style and her work. A little crazy? Yes.

Last but not least, Julianne Moore. She was brilliant as Dora and she's one of my favorite actresses.

ahh, francoise gilot!

i love the way she talked about picasso...she has such a sharp wit!

also, dora maar is very interesting...there was a great retrospective of her work in munich some years ago.

and i love julianne moore! this film about dora, when was it released?
it never hit the cinemas here...(yet, hopefully)

I love this thread...

anna k - those are amazing photos. i'm not familiar with eleonora duse so i had to google her.

i feel the same way about gilot...i loved her book. Also, the photo of julianne is from the film survivng picasso...it was a small part. apparently gilot has never seen the film and refuses to bc she feels that they didn't understand her book.

i found a few photos of loulou de la f...

ah, ok, but from when is the film surviving picasso then, because i don´t think it was shown here either?

the last picture of loulou is georgeous...could be from the twenties or thirties!

^ I'd say the film way made around 95'

A few more of gilot.

i love the first of the two francoise pictures...you can see that she is not only sharp...she is probably rather hiding behind it sometimes.

i asked people and surviving picasso was actually shown in germany...i was somehow ignorant of it, i vaguely remember a. hopkins as picasso.
i have generally ambiguous feelings toward artist´s biopics...i always expect them to ruin something for me but at the same time i am so curious i usually watch them though...
but you say you liked it? i will see if i can get it somewhere...

so this is rather weird...because their exists only this one (authentic) picture of her but i have engraved her image on my...heart...mind...i don´t know.
(i´m actually using this as an avatar in another forum and would have taken it here, only i wanted to distinguish between the two forums)

emily dickinson

^ Wonderful choice!

About Surviving Picasso: Hopkins can't pull off the role and that really ruins the film...it's impossible to suspend belief if you know anything about Picasso. Also, the film skips over a lot of interesting events in his life and I'm not sure his relationship w/ Matisse is explained very well. I'm not sure if Gilot's character is really accurate either. Sorry for the vagary...I saw it a long time ago.

Anyway, the other actors are decent and I like the costumes.

thank you!
arrgh i said "picture in the middle" at first...then my f*stupid computer didn´t show the first picture anymore i thought i was insane and edited it to "first picture"!!!
i meant the one of gilot in a plain dress looking to the side!
did you see pollock?

i love love the first picture of lotte lenya that you posted .
i admit that i´ve never heard of annemarie schwarzenbach before ,but i love her style.

^it is by lotte jacobi, one of my favourite photographers (the lenya portrait), i'm glad you like it.
i only came across annemarie schwarzenbach when reading klaus mann's turning point (a bible for me at some time).
she is such an interesting but tragic (here we go again ) figure.
