Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane (2000-2007)

That jacket is astounding... I might have to put down a bid for that :p

That Napoleon jacket is an incredible piece...kudos to anyone who could pull it off.

Albert to be honest the jacket's proportions don't look that right on you...this is strictly IMO, but I think it would look better on somebody not that tall. The sleeves seem fine but the waist is really short and the shoulders look really boxy (perhaps it is just the picture)? I find I have the same problem with Dior Homme outerwear, I have tried on a bunch of jean jackets, military jackets, I am too tall to wear them, therefore it creates a "hanging" effect where the jacket seems suspended in mid air and stops barely past my stomach, without properly fitting and wrapping around my torso which is what I wanted from those jackets. Don't know if that made any sense, just my 2 cents...it's weird too, because Dior's suits fit me perfectly. But alas, no such luck with the jackets...

I agree with Kit in that the jacket you got is a remnant of a legacy that is no longer in its glory days...on one hand I would keep it, even as a museum piece because it really represents a peak of a worldwide cultural phenomenon that feels somewhat past its prime nowadays, judging from the S/S 06 pictures. Then again, selling it for a couple grand would allow you to invest in other more wearable pieces that would make the purchase worth it, perhaps from other older seasons too. Decisions, decisions...

Good man Matt. I think you and I are often on the same wavelength here.

Unfortunatly I am not so rich as to be able to let a couple grand just sit in the closet as much as I'd like that. I will definitely be turning the money around and putting it into pieces that I can use. I am always sourcing out older pieces so it's not as if the money will be going to waste (unless I splurge and buy a Kawasaki motorcycle hahaha... god, selling this jacket would get me more than halfway there. How crazy is that!).

I have an offer of a tad under $2k for it... so if anyone wants to beat it then PM me by this evening (currently 2 pm)!

Hey Chinorlz, I like the jacket on you, but I think the size is too large. I'd say you'd want a size down, maybe two. It's meant to fit snug, and looks better slightly more square to the body, than that one fits you. You'd probably be wearing it open mostly anyway. I think a slightly longer jacket might look better on you as well. There were some other jackets from Luster in the same basic style which are a couple inches longer than that, a synthetic and one of the leathers I believe (both with the epaulettes and front four pockets).

Hey Albert,
Paul here from the msn group. Just reading the dior posts, and happy to come across some from you including this one. Where'd you pick up the single button blazer (black I assume)? and what collection is it from? For ages I've been searching vainly for a short single button. So far no luck at all. And if you do decide to part with any of yours (esp. the leather collar one) please let me know!

I just bought another blazer so the leather corsage that I managed to get my hands on will get a ton of use! Too many Dior suits and blazers! Why can't the weather cool down already?????

PS- if someone is interested in the jacket. I'd rather sell it to someone that I know would truly appreciate the perfection that it is. PM me.:flower:

Chinorlz, by the way, are the jeans the lurex from last season? I like those on you, they fit really well. I think you could also get away with wearing a size larger. You're lucky to be slim and you could pull off wearing dior jeans closer to the way they're worn on the runway, a little bit lower slung, with just a little bagginess in teh seat. look I think. The jeans in the pic look narrow enough that a size up wouldn't be sloppy at all, with much in the way of extra fabric, but you'd be able to wear them a little lower. Or maybe you've tried that and it doesn't work for you. Like I say, the snug look you've got in the pic works great as well.

Thanks!

I bought true-to-size this season based on how the fit was last season. I anticipated some stretching out of the jeans as I wore them. I haven't worn the lurex a ton of times (like I did with my orange overdyes from VotC), so they aren't fully broken in yet. The 32s from VotC, after breaking them in, ended up being 1 size too big. So knowing that last season's jeans fit true to size, I just bought the 32s there. I've learned my lesson and have a pair of 31s from VotC coming my way. After those get broken in, there will just be the right amount of bagginess in the seat. The VotC 32s ended up being TOO baggy.

As for the jacket, yeah it did seem to fit slightly large on me. I think I am/was blinded by the pure awesomeness of it.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions!

Albert,

An utterly amazing piece; i remember trying it on during Winter 2003 in Selfridges! FWIW, i think it's a wise decision to sell it, as lovely as it is to collect the rare signature pieces i'm sure you'll agree its better to have the pieces that fit perfectly! Btw, what colour did you get the corsage in?

Thanks Winston. I'm in agreement with you. It's just so hard to part with something so perfectly made (yet not perfectly fit hehe).

The corsage I got is solid black. I saw a gray one on the Solitaire runway... is there a white and red too?

It's definitely something to treasure, afterall, it was the piece presented on the first model to walk the DH's Solitaire runway. IMO, the definitive and signature DH accessory! I also have the black one but would like to get my hands on a grey version as well if possible! (Yeah it's greedy haha, though i don't think there's a red one).

The first three looks presented down the runway for Solitaire:

It's hard not to fall in love eh? The finest mens show ever in my books!

Soooo perfect! And such a massive difference between that and the state of DH next spring (*cough* crap *cough*)

I think someone posted a source for the gray one if you're interested in paying a mint for it... not sure how much you're looking for hehe. I absolutely cannot WAIT to get mine. It's gonna get sooo much use once the weather cools down just a tad.

I've been quite disappointed with Dior as well. It seems that the stuff doesn't have the same soul anymore, which it used to have in the first few seasons. The rags in the shops look almost like narrowed down replicas of Marc and the clothes are heavily based on researched vintage pieces as it is with Jacobs. Maybe spring 2006 tries to look a bit more original again, but I don't know...Wish Slimane would do the kind of clothes he did for YSL many years ago, that was fantastic! For now I have to be happy with Demeulemeester, Margiela, Raf, CCP and Rick Owens...

does anyone have a close up picture of the leather corsage? i'd appriciate it so much :flower:

This might be a bit out of context.
Is there any chance in getting items listed below:

"heart/love wound shirt" in size 38 (37-39 could work).
Coated shirts from Luster/Strip (same sizes)
Distressed coated jeans in size 28.
Dior sneakers in size 39/6.

Help will be much appreciated.

Best of luck . :innocent:

Thanks Kit...

I'm new to this game. How often do you see those pieces on sale? i usually just buy the most recent collection.
But I really regret not buying those pieces while I had the chance...
Thanks again.

I should just keep abreast of the Dior Homme threads here on TFS , and watch the Dior Homme MSN website , for the buying and selling , privately and on ebay etc .

Both of these resources are MUSTS if you want to keep up with sales , availability , quality of merchandise , and ALL other things TOO TOO numerous to mention .
