Discussion: Who Should Be The Creative Director of Balenciaga?

Can Kering afford to pay a star designer? If it could, it wouldn't have appointed second-tier designers (Ancora Boy and Sean McGirr) as creative directors. Kering's crisis is evident in its preference for spending less on second-tier (and third-tier) designers than hiring design rockstars who are now free agents.
They can. They are just cheap…
Demna is more expensive than Ancora and yet, they chose the cheap route.
Balenciaga is bigger than McQueen so they can.

And even with the guy they hired, they could have chosen an LVMH prize winner for the same price.

But then again, the Balenciaga job is not a 10M a year position. You can push it to 2/3M with advantages that makes it worth 5M.

What is Martina Tiefenthaler doing right now ?
I know they split with Demna a while ago, so I assume she is not at Gucci.
If we are using Kering brains, she's next in line for Balenciaga.

I don’t expect someone currently in position to take over. Maybe I’m wrong but I can see them either hire a buzz-worthy young talent that will bring a conversation, much like they did with Demna or take an experienced voice.

Maybe this will be Martine Rose ultimate calling. I bet someone there must be pressing them about hiring a woman at the helm of one the house of the group. With Gucci, YSL and McQueen out of the equation, it may be the moment.
Martine Rose Demna himself recommended her to the group ceo but they ignored this , according to inside folks at balenciaga

Maybe the Hodakova girl then.
I don’t know…I’m thinking from a corporate politics stand point. Maybe they will actually make a challenging and controversial choice.

I can’t really say that I’m interested by what’s going on regarding Kering brands and affiliated (Valentino).
Hodakova fits the young hype/LVMH winner and margiela clone upcycle that Demna does as well Lotta styles the shows so its hype close to Miu Miu success that for them produced a versace cd shift

i can totally see them make this simple calculation and adding she is a woman is cherry on the cake of Kering humanity goals :-)

its her

Half of their revenue is from men’s so are they willing to nuke that department with someone with no experience? The women’s leather goods growth at ysl was enough to cover that up when they did that with Vacarello but that’s not the case here.

Being able to be announced yesterday makes it seem like someone unemployed or self employed since no one released a departure notice to preface it

She had beef with Lotta + legal beef with Kering itself as a company.
You know that a pending legal beef with Kering means doors closed forever (looking at you Hedi and Nicholas).
