Discussion: Who Should Be The Creative Director of Chanel?

Also, he has not even started and I’m already bored by the future Hedi haters 😂
.. but that's when you come into play for the sake of symbiosis. "I love the air he breathes, his landscapes, his soul, the cars, his black and white pictures, his wrinkles, his taste for boys, his music, his world and what he touches 🌹".

.. and we have a wholesome community! (only volft is missing but unlike you, volft was always fuming and on the verge of a stroke, hedi threads need sense of humor, given that he has.. none).

Dying 🤣 Not a huge fan of his music taste nor his wrinkles though, haha.

Idk who Volft is? I only recall PDSF (I don’t remember the name exactly) who also likes Hedi a lot.

I am not really a super Hedi fan as a “designer”, for me he is like Karl, I love them as a person, love listening to them, love how much of an esthete they are, their strong opinions… but when it comes to fashion, what they do is not always my cup of tea.

Chanel is such a hard brand for a designer. I just can’t imagine other than Hedi at the helm, but we’ll see. I hope he doesn’t go tooo basic.

As someone said, the 2005/2006 Chanel era was a little bit Slimane and it’s probably one of my faves, but Karl had a wider repertoire, was more “light”, and had a more “fashion” approach to clothing. Hedi can take himself too seriously sometimes.

^ you need to look up Celine threads from like 2021 and 2022! I think he was very young and I'd venture to guess that he found out about Hedi via kpop..? it was that type of fanaticism. But it did make for a parody on the lack of rationalization among stans (of all designers, and of anything really, not just Hedi).

I actually still play some of his music for SL lol. That song with La Femme from around 2015 still wakes me up on my way to work. 😂

Volft is an Hedi fan. With all the essays on how brilliant Hedi is. I mean I think he is a brilliant creative director.

He’s actually aware and have been reading this thread right now. He said he’s just too tired to create an account.

Funny 😂 I love designer stans, and if they are angry all the time… even better haha. Too bad he no longer posts, I’m sure he was fun to read.

If it really is Hedi, them he will need to pause the autopilot. He won't have that luxury at Chanel imo. It's too many collections, and if he don't move his azz to design something, the critics are not gonna be happy, he's gonna do his typical antics, and that's not the situation they want for the house. It has to be less about him and more about Chanel.

About the design: Not saying Karl wasn't modern, he was! although many disagree. But I really wish Hedi would try to remind people how modern Coco's fashion was. I love 20's fashion (men's and women's) and it's upsetting people have the opinion that Chanel was a hyper feminine frou frou "styliste". She wasn't. Her fashion was elegant but never nostalgic.

Waiting for Haider Ackermann's name to appear in the thread

We banished him to the abyss after he signed with Canada Goose.

i asked chat gpt and it said phoebe, raf, Martha, or Hedi lol
I tried it myself and it gave me this:
Selecting an ideal creative director for Chanel requires a balance of honoring the brand's storied legacy while infusing fresh, innovative perspectives. Here are a few candidates who might fit the role:

1. Phoebe Philo: Known for her successful tenure at Céline, Philo is celebrated for her minimalist and sophisticated designs. Her vision aligns well with Chanel’s emphasis on elegance and timelessness. Her ability to blend modernity with classic elements would be a strong asset.

2. Alessandro Michele: Formerly of Gucci, Michele revitalized the brand with his eclectic, maximalist approach. While this is a stark contrast to Chanel’s aesthetic, his creative genius and ability to rejuvenate a heritage brand could bring a new, exciting chapter to Chanel.

3. Clare Waight Keller: Her experience at Givenchy and Chloé, combined with her understanding of couture and ready-to-wear, makes her a compelling choice. Keller's ability to blend modern and romantic elements could provide a fresh yet respectful take on Chanel’s legacy.

4. Daniel Lee: Former creative director of Bottega Veneta, Lee is known for his modern, avant-garde approach while maintaining a sense of luxury and craftsmanship. His innovative use of textures and materials could bring a unique, contemporary edge to Chanel.

5. Virginie Viard: As the current creative director, Viard has a deep understanding of Chanel’s history and values, having worked closely with Karl Lagerfeld for many years. Her continuity ensures the preservation of Chanel’s core identity while allowing room for subtle evolution.

Ultimately, the ideal creative director should embody a deep respect for Chanel’s heritage, an innovative vision for its future, and the ability to navigate the delicate balance between tradition and modernity.
