Do you live in fashion Siberia?

Sorry but I can officially claim to be in true fashion siberia (or even fashion no mans land which is worse in terms of survival of a fashionable soul than even siberia!!!). where I live nobody has even heard of Zara let alone thinking it is high fashion. Id be delighted if they did think it was fashionable. I just plough my own furrow, wear mostly what I want & shop online or when I get away!!! its not so bad - in some ways it can allow you to be less swayed by the trends....

Well...I don't know if I am in a fashion Siberia or not (PRAGUE)

Well they have...DIOR, LUOIS VUITTON, HERMES, HUGO BOSS, ESCADA, MAX MARA, GUESS, SOME VERY NICE SHOPS WITH SHOES (don't know what they'r called), LA PERLA (I think), D & G (but not really big), VERSACE, KENZO, And many "cheap" shops like h&m, mango, zara, benetton, sisley, replay...etc.

well...You decide. But I feel quiet good here...its not like I need extremly expensive clothes anyway.

do you stay in Singapore??

i hate being in a country which is sumemr all year around. you wear boots, blazers or anything too unsuitable for the weather and you get stared at. everyone in my school wears jeans, tshirts and flip flops everyday (sad to say, i do dress like that on lazy days) but i really wish that i stay in a country with seasons so i could buy all the beautiful coats, boots and scarves to my heart's content.

You remind me of a friend from the Canary Islands (off the coast of Spain/Morocco, where it is 23 degrees centigrades all year round.) When she moved to Amsterdam she bought a coat, a raincoat, a hat, scarf, gloves, umbrella... all gorgeous! For the first time in her life. She felt very glamorous with winter clothes. Though the lack of sunlight made her very depressed. I agree that the change of seasons is refreshing! We dress better in the winter, but look more attractive in the summer.:flower:

I could care less about the stares! I have found more acceptance than backlash..
And come to think of it, the same applies to me - so I'll continue to enjoy the natural scenery and create my own fashion scenery!^_^

We could do with more teen shops. I'd love an Urban Outfitters here.

But still, nothing beats London and Milan shopping.

Montreal is a very diverse city, very crowded... Of course there are a few fashionable people here, but it's still painful to see all the logos thrown around. A typical cool person in Montreal HAS to have something with the LV monogram on it.

But other than that, there's a few fashionable people, but too few. But I do like it that way, makes you feel even more special when you wear something original.

Most people here would have no idea what on earth relatively known designers like Valentino and all are.

Though they probably all know what Dior and LV are (we're like the city of logos).

I live in Fashion Sibera for sure (at least, for nine months out of the year, and then I'm back in the fashionable Bay Area). The biggest "names" here are North Face and Birkenstocks...and then you have the strange supplanted students who still have no fashion and wear juicy couture cause everyone else does...
Mostly I want to hit everyone...my friends and I sit in a tea cafe or Starbucks and make fun of people. haha. it's surprisingly easy...well, why would it not be, when someone's walking outside wearing a pair of socks with teva sandals?
No brand-name stores here...

Can't wait to go home. where I can wander into Gucci and go to Nordstroms, Bloomies, Neimans...:: sighs ::

Well, I live in absolute fashion siberia. No one can even grasp the concept of high-end here. We just got an "upscale" mall put in here, which means there is a Talbots, Ann Taylor Loft, and Coldwater Creek. That being said, Ann Taylor Loft is most definitely the best store in the area. And that is sad, very sad.

Previously, the stores in out area were: American Eagle. Express. Old Navy. Aeropostale. Wet Seal. And if you were cool and had enough money, you drove across the river to A&F or Hollister.

Basically, we have two types here, for eveyone from the age of 13 to 28. Those who wear the AE uniform of AE jeans, AE sweater (maybe A&F), and those AE fake Birkenstocks, with corduroy Aeropostale bag or monogram Louis Vuitton knockoff. Then there are the girls who shop exclusively at Wet Seal and look maybe even sadder, like Seventeen magazine grabbed them and threw them into a bin poorly made, ill-fitting brightly colored items of clothing that are so trendy it's disturbing and asked them to close their eyes and get dressed. Then there's maybe five girls I've ever seen who obviously are a bi more well-off than others in the area, and they wear the classic cheesy outfit everyone in America is familiair with: Seven jeans, juicy couture tee, Uggs and ugg bag or juicy bag. Plus overprocessed blonde hair, overtanned skin and lots of makeup. There are no exceptions to these three categories. Honestly.

I do all my shopping online. ALL of it. When I get to it, I love to head up to NYC and get some shopping done there, because doing ALL of your shopping online is lreally ess than desirable. I never get rude comments or odd stares, except from the "Wet Seal" girls who are most likely just extremely jealous that I actually have developed my own sense of style. I think I've become a bit of a celebrity n my area, like TheSoCalledPrep said has happened to her. It sounds kind of snobby, stuck-up and condescending to say it, but people honestly do just stop what they are doing, stare in awe and whisper (how many times have I heard, "Wow, look, it's her..."?? Countless.) so often when I walk by or whatever. Like they have never seen someone wear what I do before. Which actually is probably true. But I get so much positive feedback, no one is really negative to me.
My motivation is just my love of clothing. I have so much appreciation for a well-made article of clothing, I love the fabulous feel of a perfectly cut dress or a quality fabric, I love the sensuousness of strong silk satin against your skin, love colors and aesthetics. I have so much respect for the talent, creativity and genius of designers and think that the way clothing has changed as society has is fascinating. I love expressing my personality through my clothing. And as a Leo astralogically, I think it was born into me to secretly love attention. But really it's the first few mentioned reasons. Clothes are amazing creations.

I miss the typical small boutique off the mainstreet, which sells a selection of makes (many of them unknown) some shoes, some bags and jewellery and where you can find original things. These shops have a lot of character and still abound in the provinces. I am a bit fed up with the franchise shops of large cities.

I totally live in fashion Siberia, well actually Finland isn't even that far from Siberia... There's absolutely nowhere to shop here, thankfully I travel quite a lot. The only designer stores here are Max Mara and Hugo Boss, how great. That doesn't even begin to describe how bad the shopping here is even though I live in the capital city!

CdG opened a Guerrilla in Helsinki. Hurry up until it'll closed after an year:-)

Well, now that I think about it, Montreal is not that bad, I mean, we do have stores that carry brands like Helmut Lang, Lanvin, Balenciaga.... Just that they're quite rare, and very few are the people who shop there.

You don't know just how jealous i am!

I'd sell my soul to have shopping like that so close (that is if hadn't already surrendered it to fashion) :D

Oh yeah. All the stuck in the 80s and everywhere you look its Paris Hilton clones! The lastest trend to hit my city was acid wash jeans. Its gotta be one of the most unfashionable cities in the world.

Unfortunately I live in Tennessee. The town I come from is kind of a wealthy area, but the way girls at my high school dressed proves that money can't buy taste. I was made fun of on a daily basis for actually being original and refusing to wear the standard Abercrombie uniform.

I have lived all over from London to Istanbul, to Netherlands, to Mexico. I live in Chicago currently.

Okay..NL was not very fashionable (no offense to any Dutch friends) People seemed more into comfort and not so much into fashion or trends.

Istanbul was nice. Maybe not London or NYC but definitely not midwest/southern US or many other European cities. They have their own Manhattan where wearing last year's sunglasses or heels will put you right out of the spot. And they have places where people dress more practically.

I am also divided about Mexico. Because there are the poor and the rich and nothing in between I have seen it all. However they do not have several boutiques. What they had was Fendi, LV, Chanel, SF and Cavalli. The rich Mexicans fly to Miami Bal Harbor or Europe to get their shopping done.

Chicago...Loving it. The magnificent mile alone has several high-end boutiues. And I love living around the corner from them although it puts a hole in your budget every now and then.

i hate my fashion siberia, with a passion, i cant wait for the entire town to explode or just to move out, quickly.

some might think there's room for creativity, which i agree, but there's no inspiration at all when living in the middle of nowhere, people are only concerned about looking good, good meaning your butt trapped in tight clothes, push-up bra, belly out. it's incredibly tacky and sickening, fashion equals versace, armani, d&g, abercrombie..even von dutch and if you dont wear them it's because you're poor, and if you're poor, then you're not very welcome.
then again, if you go to the 'freak' circles and you dress differently (no black uniform, no trendy haircut) they do think you might have an interest in fashion, if you have an interest in fashion then it means you're a ruthlessly shallow human being. hilarious. :D
