Best Actor:
Joaquin Phoenix, Walk the Line

Best Actress:
Reese Witherspoon, Walk the Line

I hope because of all the other "real life" roles that have walked away with the oscar doesn't hurt these two. I've read nothing but good things about them and the movie so I hope something like that doesn't hurt their chances.

I doubt Russell will get anything after the hotel thing

I would really LOVE to see Johnny Depp win for once, he is by far one of the best actors in the industry... Can you imagine anyone with more range than Depp?

I don't agree with people saying Renee Zelweger isn't a good actress. She friggin carried Cold Mountain on her own shoulders - it would've crashed and burnt without her.
Let's not forget Nurse Betty and Bridget Jones... you can tell she works hard in her roles.

I like Renee. But her Oscar for Cold Mountain was a total, "Sorry we didn't give you the best actress award that you were favored to win last year. So, we're giving you this supporting actress award instead. Enjoy". It was so obvious.
Shoreh Angdoshloo (sp?) practically won every single critics award that year, while Renee won every major Hollywood award. I think it was clear that Hollywood was rallying behind her. Shoreh should have gotten it based on performance alone, I think.

I think most times than not, the Cannes Film Festival is the best indication of really good movies, and really good acting performances. It's never about the ratings (obviously, because they aren't televised), but about the art. Plus, the pool of movies that are up for consideration for the jury prizes are far more diverse than any Hollywood event.

time to bump this sucker up. So much as changed in a couple months. Looks like Kiera's Pride and Prejudice is getting lots of Oscar buzz and Speilberg's Munich is the frontrunner (until it screens).

I really liked Terrence Dashon Howard in Hustle & Flow.

I saw him on Oprah and he's a cutie with a sexy voice. I have a crush on him.

I also liked him in Crash.

I definitely think Mr Depp is overhyped...... Yes he's a great actor and he's super hot looking, but looks aside, he's a great actor, but I don't think he deserves getting nominated or winning an Oscar...

LOL, I love Oscars. I mean, I hate what they choose sometimes, but I still like the whole thing. I've been following the Oscar races, VERY CLOSELY, for over five years now (how sad) and here are my predictions for this year's nominations.

Oh and here's who I think did and didn't deserve to win in the last five years

2000
ACTOR: Ed Harris, Pollock (I thought Russell Crowe didn't even deserve to get nominated)
ACTRESS: Julia Roberts, Erin Brockovich (though Ellen Burstyn was amazing as well)
S.ACTOR: Albert Finney, Erin Brockovich (Joaquin Phoenix was also good, I didn't care much for Benicio Del Toro)
S.ACTRESS: Marcia Gay Harden, Pollock (it was one of the best surprises ever)

2001
ACTOR: Tom Wilkinson, In The Bedroom (Ugh, I can't believe Washington won. Not horrible, but THE BEST? NO)
ACTRESS: Sissy Spacek, In The Bedroom (though Halle Berry was my second choice)
S.ACTOR: Jim Broadbent, Iris (didn't care one way or the other, weak category)
S.ACTRESS: Jennifer Connelly, A Beautiful Mind (amazing performance, glad she won)

2002
ACTOR: Adrien Brody, The Pianist (my favorite 'surprise' win of all times, LOL)
ACTRESS: Nicole Kidman, The Hours (it makes me sick that she beat out Julianne Moore or even Zellweger and Lane)
S.ACTOR: Chris Cooper, Adaptation (great performance, glad he won)
S.ACTRESS: Samantha Morton, Minority Report (too bad she wasn't nominated, otherwise Julianne Moore)

2003 (I agree with each one)
ACTOR: Sean Penn, Mystic River (he was awesome, Ben Kingsley was great too)
ACTRESS: Charlize Theron, Monster (my favorite Actress winning performance EVER!!!!!)
S.ACTOR; Tim Robbins, Mystic River (such a strong category, anyone could've won)
S.ACTRESS: Renee Zellweger, Cold Mountain (she deserved it if only for being snubbed two yeras in a row)

2004
ACTOR: Tom Cruise, Collateral (Jamie Foxx parade last year made me SICK and I can't believe Cruise wasn't even nominated)
ACTRESS: Hilary Swank, Million Dollar Baby (I thought Kate Winslet was amazing, but Swank was even better)
S.ACTOR: Morgan Freeman, Million Dollar Baby (Clive Owen was even better, but Morgan was WAY overdue)
S.ACTESS: Natalie Portman, Closer (she would be my first choice, but I have no problem with Cate Blanchett winning)

a) Crash sucked, though Thandie Newton and Terence Howard were great in it. Crash sucked though.

b) What about 'Chronicles of Narnia' or 'King Kong', surely the most popular films of the next two months?

c) What about The New World?

c) Crash sucked.

d) I hated Crash.

I hate the Oscars b/c I'm always reminded that I hardly ever watch real movies. If there were Oscars for the movies that I watch then Will Ferrel would be winning for Old School:lol:

Oh how I love the red carpet though^_^

great predictionsMyNameIs!

I dont think Matt Dillion will get in though.

I am going to be harsh, but in my opinion, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellewegger, Jamie Foxx, Charlize Theron, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Catherine Zeta Jones, Gwyneth Paltrow....... .......none of them deserved an Oscar win....... and I am not naming A LOT of other actors because i am too lazy to do so.......

And if anyone else does agree with me.... ....feel free to support my opinion, I promise you I will protect you from the hordes of Gwyneth, Foxx, Theron, Crowe..... fans..... ^_^

I pretty much agree w/ everything u have said I swear the day gwy. won over Cate and Halle won the oscar when she so didn't deserve it imo:innocent: I stopped really caring about the oscars they don't even really look at performances anymore just hype and if the timing is right for the star's career it's so ridiculus! I mean how could anyone take an award show seriously that still hasn't given best director to Martin Scorsce!l:(

What a hilarious quote! Sometimes I feel the same way because 90% of what I watch are comedies...... I  comedies, Old School, and Will Ferrell... hahaha

my Favourite movie of the year was Wedding Crashers....:D

Maybe Catherine Keener will get a nomination for Capote.

He best win.

After he lost to Bencio, I have been extremly bitter eversince.

It vexed me. I was terribly vexed.

(Sorry for that, but Joaquin, IMO was FANTASTIC in Gladiator:innocent: )

The Oscars are getting boring for me. It's like I only enjoy looking at the red carpet and don't care about the rest anymore..:innocent:

I would be really happy if a Québec movie made it to the Oscars and won Best Foreign Movie. That would be AWESOME!

Edit: Oh, apparently C.R.A.Z.Y. is on the nomination list, along with 57 other movies! Yay!

People might respect or validate your opinion if you actually backed it up.
