F/W 06.07 Ad Campaigns

Of course, some very famous supermodels have "lost it" due to a physical or mental aging process while others, like Kate and Linda, have not. The trick is to use the ones that are so great/fascinating looking that they add something to the image, or at least don't detract. That is all clearly very subjective, though

Hmm...I disagree. I don't think Supers are great anymore---they used to be stunning and gorgeous, but their day has definetily gone, even without the celebrity status. None of them seem to know how to pose anymore, or they repeat the same pose over and over again. New girls seem more professional these days.

Wow, apparently Miu Miu's FW06 campaign will also feature young Chinese...they're using film/television stars Zhou Xun ( 周迅) and Dong Jie (董潔) in their ads...(You might recall Zhou Xun as a "Chinese Gemma" in one of the TFS threads) I wondered if it was just an Asia-centric campaign at first (Since they're definitely not the most marketable faces internationally...), but it was shot in Paris and the source article states that the campaign will be "international," so...it's more likely to be worldwide?

Wow, even I'm taken back by my fellow Chinese's sudden surge in the international fashion world this past year -- looks like a lot of good things are following the launch of Vogue China! :woot:

Here're images of them:

That would be amazing though planned campaigns can sometimes dissolve at the last minute. I'll believe it when I actually see the Miu Miu campaigns in mags. Miuccia seems not to want black models in her shows or campaigns but seems more open to Asians. She had Takeshira something or other, the Chinese-japanese actor in her men's campaign a few years back.

Here's the article (Originally in Chinese) I translated from the Du Juan thread - this news is still blowing my mind

Zhou Xun shoots Miu Miu Campaign; LV Fall/Winter Seeks Du Juan

Internationally acclaimed brandnames appear to be pulled towards the direction of China this year -- Renowned French brands Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu (Urm, dear Chinese writer - Miu Miu's ITALIAN :P) have simultaneously used eastern faces to promote their worldwide campaigns. Recently, LV sought out mainland model Du Juan and invited her to become the featured model of their worldwide campaign. Meanwhile, Zhou Xun and Dong Jie shot the Miu Miu Fall/Winter ad campaign in Paris days ago.

The winner of the New Silk Road Pageant, Du Juan was recently featured as one of Style.com's Top Ten Models of 2006. Still only 19 (Wait, I thought she was older?), Du Juan not only graced the NYC, London, Milan, and Paris international runways, but she also triumphed over her competition and was selected as Louis Vuitton's newest face.

The fashion industry has recently encountered an immense amount of Chinese influence, with many companies searching for Asian stars or models to front their advertisements. Another famous brandname, Miu Miu, chose mainland actresses Zhou Xun and Dong Jie as spokemodels for its next worldwide campaign, which is now in the process of being photographed in Paris. As the girlfriend of stylist Li Da Qi, Zhou Xun is riding on the momentum of her newfound love as well as her win in the Hong Kong Film Awards, and with the help of her significant other, she has transformed into an even more stylish individual -- a change that has enhanced her aura.

Du Juan and Dong Jie share the common trait of "mistakenly" entering their current career paths. In the beginning, Du was interested in progressing in the ballet and theater fields, yet her 178 cm height proved to be too tall, and this attribute caused her to shift towards becoming a model instead. In the end, she has found fame in this new choice.

Dong Jie graduated from the Beijing People's Liberation Army Theatre School's dance curriculum, and her ambition was to become an artist. However, the art class she originally wanted to register for reached its maximum capacity, and in a strange, last-minute decision she entered into a dance class instead. Her studies extended to a period of 10 years. After she participated in Zhang Yimou's work "Happy Times," her path of life also took a drastic turn. Later on, she would become part of the acting ensembles of acclaimed films such as "2046" and "Subway," where she played roles that propelled her status in the entertainment industry.

Miu Miu's choice is bad...

I would have went with Shu Qi or Zhang Ziyi for chinese actressess.

But I think Ziyi is too big for them somehow.

What I definetly like about this season...is that there is lot of non-caucasian models, I mean go diversity

I totally agree. Zhang Ziyi seems to be an Armani favourite (she played in memoirs of a geisha, right or am I totally messing everything up)

^Yep, she did! I'm definitely not a fan of ZZY...however, I'll say nothing more

As strange as the choice was for the campaign, I still can't wait to see Zhou Xun in the Miu Miu ads :D

I'm excited to see who will be in Stella McCartney' s campaign. They always come out with cool ads!
