Fashion Merchandising

^ I'll be moving down to Tallahassee, FL with my beau in a couple of months... he'll be in grad school down there... I've been looking into fashion-related grad studies... do quite a lot of U.S. univerisities offer graduate programs relating to fashion?

Erin, i'm actually hoping to attend Florida State University, it's the only school in-state for me that offers classes pertaining to fashion. I'm planning on getting some sort of degree in fashion buying or visual merchandising. You should see if you can attend some classes there while you will already be in Tallahassee!

hope that is a help!

i'd be interested in hearing from professionals in this field & seeing if it was a worthwhile career choice/enough opportunities? I have to make a huge decision about whether or not to go into the field of fashion!

No one answered so I'll ask again, does anyone know any schools that offer fashion merchandising undergrad programs other than LCF and FIT?

I go to University Of Delaware and I'm majoring in fashion merchandising. We also have an apparal design major and APD/FM double major. UD also has a visiting student program with FIT, which I plan on doing next year.:flower:

Well i was looking through past posts on fashion merchandising and i was wondering if fashion merchaindising is kind of like accounting? i mean i know its nothing to do with taxes and stuff but is it like number crunching? Is it a desk job? What kind of things does the job involve? Do you have to be good at math such as calculus??? anything to help me better understand what the job requires would be great!!! thanks :D

Is this type of career difficult to get into if you didn't do business undergrad?

Or if you didn't study fashion in school?

Are there any graduate programs?

^ I personally think it is hard to get into unless you have contacts....Having education and experience to this would help alot....maybe experience wise having to start as an assistant and work your way up the ladder...

yeah.. contacts and connections work wonders...

if only i could figure out what i want to do with my life :ermm: :P

I need an Internship in Fashion Merchandising in Los Angeles anyone help

I have an interview next week for an entry-level Assistant Merchandising position with Winners Homesense in Mississauga (Toronto) Ontario.
Any advice on what personal qualities I should emphasize to the interviewers?
Also, what to wear?!?!?!!

Who here has a Fashion Merchandising degree and or job merchandising? Where did you get your degree from?

I am a Visual Merchandising Manager for Forever21, but want to get a degree from FIT so that I can have the connections, and move on to a higher fashion franchise. How has your degree helped you get to the position you have and what is it?

Thanks!

Fashion Merchandiser
Also called: Merchandiser, Apparel Merchandiser

Job Description: Fashion merchandisers on the apparel production side track and analyze market trends, production costs, and previous sales numbers to determine the product direction that the manufacturer will take each season. If high rise jeans are going to become the next big thing, a fashion merchandiser should be one of the first in the industry to spot the trend. Merchandisers are some of the most powerful employees within an apparel company, with large bottom-line and personnel management responsibilities. Fashion merchandising professionals on the retail side are also responsible for tracking consumer trends and the latest styles to determine store inventory and to price clothes. In addition to arranging the receiving and storage of apparel, retail merchandisers supervise the creation of visual displays and the overall appearance of the store. They may also be responsible for tracking profits and losses
