GAP - what are your opinions??

I have some good basics from Gap, but I personally think that it's gone downhill while Old Navy's been getting a lot better.

I still buy a few things here and there, but I'm beginning to shop at Banana Republic more often since I'm entering the professional world and I need affordable work clothes!

i personally think that gap is nice, but to me uniqlo reminds me of gap and i prefer uniqlo alot more... better quality imo, more interesting peices like their printed stuff.

Gap clothes fit terrifically! They are always too wide and unflattering. Although every now and then you can find a few pieces that are cute (and fits). I'd get basics from GAP, like a plain sweater or something. But I wouldn't expect to find anything more than that there.

I hardly ever shop at Gap, back when me and my sister were teens I used to make fun of her for shopping there

Sometimes they will get something good though...I bought several pairs of their elasticized ballet flats last year and they are wonderful

Gap is great for the most part.

I'm always interested in their campaigns because I like many of the celebrities that advertise for them.

I just don't agree with their prices...their clothes are a little too common for so much money.

terrifically means 'great'...!

based on the rest of your post...
i think you meant 'horrifically'...which means 'really bad'...:P

:flower:

IMO, GAP leathers and denim are very well priced. Great quality too. Their basics (white shirts, etc.) are fabulous as well. Haven't tried their body pieces yet but very tempted.

everyhting is so overpriced, the other day i spent 100 bucks on two pairs on jeans

I have to agree on the fit. Everything is always TOO WIDE, BOXY and COLLEGIATE.
Are you reading this, Patrick Robinson? Merchandise directors?

I understand that is known as an American cut and one needs to dress all those bloated bodies from the mid-west but can't there be some line assigned to be a bit more fashionable( especially here in Europe)?

I suppose if one wants more fashion, they go to Club Monaco, American Apparel or Banana Replublic. There's too many of them, like Starbucks.
Snore........

OMG i agree with you whole-heartedly. Not only is old navy's quality and fit much better, their styles are much more youthful and fashionable than the GAP's. And GAP sizes have just completely ballooned, an XS there is huge, I can't even shop there anymore, except for accessories. You can't really go to the GAP if you need a button down shirt or some work pants or something, you'll find everything is poorly made, oversized, and pretty much overpriced for what it is. It's all disposable clothing now. And it's not like Old Navy isnt disposable as well, but their clothes are always better fitting and more fashionable than the GAP.

More...LOL! I'm 24 and I am appalled that I am actually seeing the GAP basically redo the whole multicolored stripe sweater/scar stuff that we had when we were in high school. It was all basically the same thing, they just brought it back in more annoying colors. Ugh.

I really like GAP clothes but the prices tend to be a little too high for what you actually get.

The Gap is great for basics, but most of the time, the clothes are overpriced. So I usually only buy things on the sales racks. Sizing for bottoms is really crazy there too, their pants and skirts are vanity sized and sometimes cut strangely so they don't look good on your body, or at least, my body. It really varies from piece to piece though... Their tops are decent though.

As an American though, I am quite jealous of the Gap's European collections, which appear much more fashion forward than most of the stuff they sell over here.

i agree camiller.

the stuff overseas is way more fashion forward than here.
i wonder why?
and i love Gap for basics.
anything else i wouldn't get.
personally.

Excuse me?

I wish the sizes ran smaller too. I'm a very thin person and usually wear 0 in other stores, but at the gap everything is WAY to big... boooooooo "generous sizing"!

I have a few things from GAP that have held up really well - a denim jacket, a wool sweater, and a couple button shirts. For the most part their clothes don't really change, and you won't really find anything 'of the moment' there; but it's a good place for inexpensive basics.
I don't shop there anymore, but I do stop by once in a while just to check out what they have. My friend gave me a $50 gift card from there, I don't know what quite to spend it on but maybe I'll like something in the future.

Gap has its moments. One season I will find a lot, another season... not so much. I'm not much into their basics like tanks, tees, and jeans but I do like their outerwear, dresses, and accessories. Their Fall ad campaign was very clever and I love my Lucy Liu dress.

I would like to see Gap take their European Collection a step further and go that direction. I've found their most interesting pieces have come from there. I bought two dresses last fall and I plan on getting a few more in their spring selection.

Fashion fwd or not, all my rocksteady basics are from Gap. And they last.
